What happens when you cross a PQM style vocal with tribal beats? You get a nasty filthy song that you just want to play over and over, Does this song measure up?
Cinderella – Where’s My Shoe (Kissthatass Recs) This is the first release from what has to be, the most unique label name in a long time. Kissthatass Recs, yes you read correctly, it is a Belgium based Funky House label run by Ziv Shalit. All you really need to know about him, is that he wants to bring you the funkiest house on the planet and get your booty shaking. This cannot be a bad goal, if it works besides there is not enough good funky house around these days. This is their first release called Cinderella – Where’s My Shoe.
Cinderella – Where’s My Shoe (KTA 001)
A1- Cinderella – Where’s my shoe (Zigi’s Lush mix) B1 – Cinderella – Where’s my shoe (Whiteboy Funky Mix)
A1- Cinderella – Where’s my shoe (Zigi’s Lush mix)
This starts with a chugging bassline with some human sounding sound effect added in. It has nice drums that back it, they don’t take away from anything. A vocal comes in saying “I’m in control” and the vocals are just filthy, just the way that I like it. We have what sounds like a drag queen singing over a chugging tribal house beat, the next vocal line says “Cuz I’m telling you baby that I’m in control, the deejay between my hips sucking champagne out of a bottle”. I told you it was dirty, the vocal goes on about shoes and how they like you. It is dirty as PQM’s usual work and this would fit right into a Steve Lawler set because the song just screams tribal stormer. The vocal comes back repeating the deejay sucking champagne line and talking about dancing, the best part is yet to come. She goes into a line about “Do you like my shoes? I bought them last night, stop staring at my shoes, BITCH!”. The dirtyness of this track is a true asset to this and it reminds you of PQM in every respect, except he uses darker progressive beats. The vocal comes back in with the line of the first line and she goes “I’m so fucking wasted, where the fuck is my shoe” and it repeats “Where is my shoe” but then goes into “I can feel you baby, shaking that ass” and you know exact which song that line first appeared in. It repeats most of the stuff from the beginning and it repeats “Do you like this groove or what”. It is a nasty Steve Lawleresque driving house song with a PQM style vocal, I thought that artists had given up on these types of songs. I think more tracks with dirty vocals and dirty chugging basslines need to be created. This song is in the same league as PQM’s You are Sleeping.
B1 – Cinderella – Where’s my shoe (Whiteboy Funky Mix)
This goes right for funky house, where as the first mix was a pure tribal stormer. This is Norman Jay style disco influenced funky house. The vocal comes in here with the same lyrics, “I am in control”, which is repeated but the funky house beat bores me. The funky mix tries to give the deejays, more variety but the lyrics don’t have the same power as they did with the first mix. It just repeats the same stuff over a funky house beat, which I imagine is great for variety but it goes nowhere.

Conclusion:
The Whiteboy Funky mix is poor and it goes nowhere and the easiest way to think about it, is a PQM style song with a funky house beat. Now the Zigi’s Lush Mix makes this record, an essential purchase because it is so PQM, the lyrics are filthy, the beats are filthy and I can see a lot more deejays playing this tune, it will go places, I just wonder when the deejays will catch on. This is truly a nasty track and if you love PQM, then you must get this, it is done in the same style as the “C**k Sonnet” and “You Are Sleeping”, which are both memorable and I can see many people picking this tune up. I hope KTA puts out more tunes like this because we need more dirty filthy songs in electronic music.
