Hisham Samawi is an unknown to some but when James Zabiela heard these two tracks at WMC 2004, he added them to his Renaissance:Alive compilation. Find out what all the hype is about with Hisham Samawi.

Hisham Samawi – Holding On/Spirals (Native Theory) (NT001)

Hisham Samawi is a name that is new to a lot of you but James Zabiela liked both of these tracks so much that he put them on his Renaissance: Alive compilation, which is due out shortly. Hisham Samawi was born in Libya and raised in Switzerland and is now a New York City resident and he has emerged as one of the best new artists to come out of the WMC 2004 Conference. He quickly found big fans in James Zabiela and Lee Burridge, as well as other deejays. His most notable claim to fame was his monster “Hisham’s GPS Breaks Mix” of Atlas – Compass Error, which was hailed by many in the music community as “Earth Shattering”. He was also the guy behind “Dirty Gringos – Cowbell”, which sampled Christopher Walken from Saturday Night Live. His future looks very bright with an increasingly busy deejay schedule and more A list deejays becoming fans of his music and with his genius, there is no telling how far, he will go. The following is the first release on his new label Native Theory.

Hisham Samawi – Holding On/Spirals (Native Theory) (NT001)

A1 – Holding On
B1 – Spirals

A1 – Holding On

This song shows exactly why Hisham Samawi is going to be a future star in the electronic music industry. This song makes use of a foreign vocal sample surrounded by driving percussion, which gives the song, such a driving edge. It does not immediately hit you, it is more subtle but it is a driving futuristic progressive song that works almost too well here. I can see why James Zabiela snapped this up quickly, it is a great song to build up the tempo of a set. Hisham Samawi will be one to watch, this song just makes it more obvious, if you did not realize it before now.

B1 – Spirals

Cass Cutbush of (Cass and Slide) described progressive as “forward thinking music”. This song is really forward thinking music, it has some elements of progressive in there, and an 80’s feel at times. This song is driven by the bassline, which makes it so different from other songs. This is the reason that Hisham Samawi started his own label because he said that “None of our tracks fit neatly into the predefined genres that often stigmatize existing labels”. He is telling the truth about that, he knows exactly what he is talking about this song, which is a perfect example.

Conclusion:
Hisham Samawi will be one to watch in the future and this release tells you a few things. 1)His music does not fit into any genre, I believe that it is in a genre of its own.
2)These tracks did give labels fits because it contains so many different sounds

Hisham Samawi crafts two unique tracks here, and he will be more sought after, when Renaissance Alive comes out and you can see what all the hype is about. Holding On is the stronger of the two tracks and it contains more drive but Spirals is a great track to use for building sets, expect to here it played more by A list deejays. He will definitely be a big player on the music scene shortly. His forward thinking attitude towards electronic music and his unique ability to craft new sounds will take him far. He is very young like James Zabiela and they both will go far in years down the road.
