Grayarea have been busy of late with remixes for Steve Porter, Hybrid and Benz and MD, What are they up to this summer?
GRAYAREA: What's that smell
UNSUCCESSFULLY STAYING OFF THE ROAD
Hola, amigos. I know it's been a long time since we've rapped at ya, but we've spent the last few months trading off getting yelled at and yelling at each other about our plan to stay off tour this summer in favor of plowing through our production and remix schedule. And, for the most part, it's been working. However, it wouldn't be summer if we didn't find ourselves making another trip (or two) back out to the west coast, so that's exactly what we're doing. So far, it looks like we'll be making stops in San Diego and Los Angeles, and we'll see if we can't track down a little more trouble to get ourselves into while we're that far from home. Keep an eye on this spot, you'll be the first to know. However, word on the street is that we'll be joined in LA by those Hybrid boys, so we're not sure how much more trouble we can handle!
OUR SPECIAL LITTLE GUY'S GETTING ALL GROWN UP!
In between those two west coast trips, the youngest member of our nconventional little troop will be celebrating a birthday. Yes, that's right, Grayarea's very own McRae will be hitting the big one-eight, ladies & gentlemen. And, as luck would have it, we've been invited to play a showcase for our most generous sponsor, M-Audio, on the very same day. It's at Chicago's legendary SmartBar, it's on July 1st, it's open to the public, and it's FREE. And while we can't promise that we'll allow McRae to make it through the duration of the show in any condition to perform his on-stage duties, we can in fact promise that it'll be the most drunken fun you've ever called in sick to work the next day for. And always remember that at SmartBar, what happens in the photo booth, stays in the photo booth... WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT TO STAY OFF TOUR?
Last but not least, we have been keeping busy around the studio, so we should probably tell you why. Our favorite remix to date has to be our recent butchery of Hybrid's I'm Still Awake, which will be seeing the light of day next month on Distinct'ive Breaks. Other forthcoming favorites include a pair of mixes of Motive's A.B.E on Fade Records, and our anything-but-ubiquitous Bourbon Coke remix of Steve Porter's Vodka Cranberries on Nu-Republic. We even squeezed in a mix for our own camp--Benz & MD's "Wonder&" got the Grayarea treatment, which will be out on Hope this August.
While we were at it, we managed to rework our very own Gravity for the not-so-limited version of its very own single, and Hope will be filling the shelves with that one just before the end of the summer. And just when you thought this was starting to read like a Hybrid newsletter, those lovable Welsh chaps have put together a beautifully dark breakbeat mix to round out the 12". That's for everyone who complained about the limited run being a one-sided job! More to come, kids...
