The latest track on the new Skywarp Records label is the imaginatively titled 'Shuffle Royal' by Escade. Does this one live up to Skywarp's hard trance promise...?
Escade is one of Ralph Novell's aliases. Ralph was behind the first release on Skywarp Records, the well received 'Wrong Love'. On this next hard trance installment, we have the Original Mix and a remix by the reknowned hard trance duo, Alphazone.
:: Escade - Shuffle Royal :: Skywarp Records :: SKY2002
1) Original Mix The Original Mix begins with a well paced, solid kick and a sprinkling of ambient percussive sounds. This is backed up quickly with an emerging bassline and backing synth chords. Soon after, the real bassline drops - a much deeper and meatier one and the kick picks up even more power. The beginning of this track is a kind of building progression - the backing synths and 'Aahs' grow into a stabbing rhythmic backing pattern, which in turn is synthed up into the first notions of a main melody. The breakdown sees this fledgling melody pick up in force as it is played by a much stronger trance synth. When the track drops back in, the powerful melody is in its final form and the wicked sounding synth is blastings it out wonderfully. Very energetic and uplifting stuff!
2) Alphazone Remix Here we begin with a slightly bassier kick and a lot of background ambience - plenty to listen to and absorb already! Jittery backing synths and deep, driving bass are quickly introduced, providing a solid platform for the rest of the track to build upon. A ghostly synth waves in and out atmospherically from the background during the approach to the breakdown. There is already a lot of power in the track with big sounds merging together in the background. The breakdown is fairly spectacular really. Here, the main melody is played out slowly. There is a very serene feeling at this point - silence broken only by the solemnly guided melody played by a merger of soft synth and female voices. Gradually, stronger synths filter in and take over as the buildup takes you head on into the main section where big, big Alphazone style synths - which seem to blend excellently into the background and work brilliantly with the bass - do some quality work indeed! This mix seems to focus on the power and feeling of the melody instead of ripping out a hook relentlessly. It is achieved perfectly due to being excellently crafted and the production is spot on.
Conclusion:
A very strong track indeed, in two very nice flavours no less! The Original Mix delivers pure hard trance energy while the Alphazone Remix is full of power delivered through a slighly more subtle use of melody. Thumbs up.
