The follow-up to Echnalava and Godchild is here! Marco V. is bringing us another piece of his fine tidbits, this time put on a deep sea blue, etched, thick slice of vinyl... Is the tune as good as the vinyl looks, or does it not stand out from the usual stuff? Read on!
As we all know, Marco V. has taken himself to the level he is at now by producing with his soulmate Benjamin Bates since the beginning. The two have made numerous classic tracks like Out Of Grace 'Obscura', Southside Spinners - 'Luvstruck' and of course all the magnificent singles like the unforgettable V:Ision Series, GODD, Simulated, and C:del*.mp3. Mr. Bates has recently released his album N.E.V.E.R.L.E.T.A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G.K.I.L.L.T.H.E.P.L.E.A.S.U.RE. (what's in a name), containing a variation of electro-ish tracks, dancefloorkillers, and even a ballad or so. The duo's versatility seems unstoppable!
A-side: Automanual First off, let me tell you a bit about the vinyl this has been pressed on: a rather thick, dark blue vinyl with the tune itself on side A, and a cool etch of the Marco V. logo on the flipside. Unfortunately, this is just a one-sided release; seems like ID&T aimed at better chances this way. One more thing is that this track is the official theme for the huge Mystery Land Festival, which will be held at the Haarlemmermeer in Holland on August 21. The build-up in this track is very chilly at first sight: some tickling mid-percussion and a cool thin kick are what serve as the introduction to what is to come. A repeating, rolling synthline gets added along the way, and some sweeping FX throw us right into a first mini-break at around 1 minute. A really phat, dark megasynth looms up, some cool breakbeats appear, after which everything comes in place again: the percs return, this time accompanied by a nice bassline that fits in well with the tones that the main phay synth sound is playing. The atmosphere gets tightened up by bringing in a repeating sound that makes me think of some kind of bell; this changes the main feel I had at the beginning of the track a bit, making it more 'happy' in some kind of way. Alot of FX and cool stuff get added along the way, after which the main break part commences: total silence at first, but soon making place for a simple, but very effective melody which is building up together with the thick synth. Tension gets built up more and more, just until the first parts of the bell-sounds start to arrive, kicking us right into maximum fun by adding the main synth at its best level and enclosing all the percussional elements. This is done a few times more, just until the build-down starts, slowly ending in a last effect..
Conclusion:
The magical duo has done it again: they've made a track in a style they haven't really done before, and succeeded completely. The overall feel tends to lean a bit to the more techy stuff using a bit of progressive elements along the way. The highly addictive phat synth and the bells are quite cool, making this track super-suitable for a nice festival like Mystery Land. Cool stuff!
