Its time for more big time tune-age because the remixes of Randy Katana's 'In-Silence' are about to land!
On the second 'In-Silence' vinyl will be a more trancey mix by the one and only Ron van den Beuken (read more about where hes at here http://www.ivibes.nu/index.php?article=3190) and also a new mix by Randy Katana which goes by the name of the Salinas Summer Mix.
:: Randy Katana - In-Silence (Remixes) :: Reset Records :: RS007
A: Ron van den Beuken Remix Van den Beuken's remix is basically a nice melodic affair with the extra spice of the van den Beuken touch. It begins promptly with a nice kick and easy layer of percussion. That continuous, rolling bassline heard in many of Ron's tracks comes in and is slowed joined by growing trancey synths in the background and the first signs of a melody played by a synth straight from the previous mixes of 'In-Silence'. This growing beginning section results in a breakdown which features the main 'In-Silence' melody, backed up by good layers of bass and synth. The kick comes back in after a roll of snares and the track kicks off really well with a lengthy melodic section. There is one final breakdown very similar to the first, which breaks back into one final main section. There is a really good balance between power and melodic appeal here.
AA: Salinas Summer Mix Randy Katana's own Salinas Summer Mix of 'In-Silence' immediately has a very chunky feel to it due to the use of a big fat beat with tribal style percussion - a little similar to the Original Mix of 'One Solid Wave'. The introductory section of tribal beats leads to a little break where the beat is replaced by a rough synth stabbing out a note repeatedly in a kind of cross between Katana and Sam Sharp style. This continues when the beat returns and slowly, a sustained synth emerges from the background and creates a thick backing layer of soft sound to fill up the track. The breakdown that follows kind of blends in slowly as the beat fades out over the course of about a minute. Here, the recognisable 'In-Silence' synth does what everyone would be begging for at this point and begins to play out the main melody. The beat kicks back in and its time to get a real summery groove on! It doesn't end there, though, as that thick synth from before the breakdown rises up again from the background which results in an excellently mellow and melodic section. The stabbing synths return and take control to escort the track to an end. This mix is brilliantly put together, as you'd expect from Randy Katana, providing with a well blended range of styles to listen to.
Conclusion:
A great remix disc worthy of this quality tune by Randy Katana. I think a lot of people would have been waiting for something like the Ron van den Beuken Remix with its emphasis on melody without letting up on energy. The Salinas Summer Mix is just as good though with its big chunky beats and the added bonus of trance like synths towards the end. Top notch!
