The latest release on growing German hard trance label Waterwold is called 'Far Beyond', by Twilight. Can this new track continue in the current Waterworld trend...?
The Twilight project is the brainchild of producer Ralph Wegner aka Ralph Novell aka Escade aka Prestige. With quality productions from each of these aliases, things begin on a deservedly positive note. On the A-side of the 'Far Beyond' vinyl is the Original Mix and on the B-side there is a Prestige Remix.
:: Twilight - Far Beyond :: Waterworld :: WWR017
A: Original Mix The Original Mix of 'Far Beyond' begins with some deep sounding ambience blended with some light, reverbed percussion. A sturdy kick and a snare roll soon join in and bring in an arpeggiated bassline. The slow progression continues with the addition of some sly synths playing sustained notes in the background, raising the overall feel of the track while some mysterious eerie sfx are swirling gently in the background. All of this progressive building leads to the breakdown which goes to near silence but for a few sparse synth hits and taps. Now, here is where the track comes into its own. From the silence emerges a wonderfully dreamy trance synth playing an absolutely spot on melody. This one really does it for me. Its of respectable length and has a dark edge to it whilst retaining an uplifting feeling, plus, theres a nice twist away from whats normally expected from these types of melodies at the end of its loop. The track drops back in and everything explodes and goes full on. The awesome melody (I love it) powers through the track, backed by the well positioned bass and subtle backing synths. One more bonus is the once the melody starts, it doesn't stop! It goes on and on, not wasting a second playing anything else, not interrupted by breaks or rest periods, just full on, strong trance. Power, energy, 1,000 hands in the air - you can't ask for more than that.
B: Prestige Remix The remix by Prestige begins with a fairly standard kick and some rapidly tapping hi-hat percussion. The bassline follows an introductory snare roll. The bass instrument is quite driving and has a gruff, electronic feel to it. The Prestige Remix progresses and builds quite similarly to the Original Mix, although there is a much more active backing synth element, with more audible instruments playing subtle melodies in the background. The following breakdown again fades the melody in. This time, it is played by a more aggressive sounding synth with a kind of muted sound to it. It also plays a slight variation to the original melody. Again, you get a lot of peak time sound due to the relentless melody, which doesn't stop until the track begins to wind down. A different take on this great track, this remix aimed at the harder (harder trance and hard house) side of things because of its tougher, grittier sound.
Conclusion:
'Far Beyond' is a fantastic track! The sublime melody in the Original Mix played by the great synth is pure quality. The remix by Prestige is also very good however, with its tougher, grittier vision of the track. The winner of the day though has to be the Original Mix. Brilliant.
