Hanan Biton aka Psytekk is a new act coming from the southern part of Israel. After his first two tracks released at ZOO-B 2 compilation, well-known label U.S.T.A records is presenting us the debut album of this young artist.

Tracklist:

1) Sonic Pulse
2) Sub Conscious
3) The Magic Dragon
4) Good Purpose
5) Dynamic Reality
6) Latinos
7) Beat Hackers - System Error (Psytekk rmx)
8) The Phone Call
9) Closing the…

U.S.T.A is one of the pioneer labels in the psychedelic trance scene in the world (and especially in Israel), by now, for the last 10 years.

Psytekk's style is simple and kicking, the first part of the album is a night time full-on, which means deep streaming leads put over tight bass-line creating a lot of motion in the atmosphere of the sequence. From there on the tracks move directly to the point of boil, where the beat merges with the sawing sounds of the leads.

We could describe Psytekk's music as a synthesis between classical israeli full-on sound and few progressive elements with a bit darker feeling. You can hear typical uplifting gradation together with tight bass-line but in a slightly different sound.

Indeed, much of the album seems to be written for the purpose of rave parties or dance clubs. The album is all instrumental with the only words being movie samples from what sounds like English psi-fi flicks. The music is electronic sounding created all by Hanan Bitton with computers, synthesizers and keyboards. Songs are an average of seven to eight minutes long. The heavy bass lines and beats don’t always come head on, but often build up, and fade in and out for effect.

There arn't that many melodies on the album. The music seems more minimalist, with brief phrases darting in and out creating a more atmospheric sound that could be boring to some. Maybe this music is less for sitting around with and more as background soundtrack material. That would fit in with the movie samples.

The album starts out with some tribal beats and samba rhythms, and quite fast we're introduced to the full on bassline we've learnt to love (or hate).
After the tribal start, the album moves into darker territories with "Sub Conscious", there's some morning and nighttime music, and after another quite tribal track it's time for the most powerfull track on the album: The remix of Beat Hackers "System Error" - and also my favourite with the closing track.

As time pass by, I notice a lot of sounds I've heard many times before. Psytekk is clearly very inspired by artists like Astrix, Deedrah and GMS, and sometimes it does work pretty nice - while other times it's not really my cup of chai.
Giving in depth comments about each track would, in this case, seem quite pointless as most of them sound very alike. All of them are very full on, there are some "killers" - but they're not so interesting for home listening.

USTA picked up a promising newcomer here, and I'm sure we'll here a lot more from Psytekk in the future. Still, this CD doesn't really stand out between all the israeli full on releases these days. Both his tracks on "Zoo-B 2" where pretty good (some of my favs. on that release), but the album isn't as good as it could have been, if he had matured a bit - a full album is too much for my taste, and it gets monotonous after some time (atleast at home).

note: press release review.

Conclusion:
If you're a big fan of israeli full on, this release is definatly worth purchasing, but it's not a must-have. If you think there's too much full on released at the moment, I would suggest you buy something else.
