A big-label debut for two up-and-coming German producers. Can their first big-time track live up to the expectations for a release on a top-level label?
With their first release on Frankfurt's Overdose label, promising production act Kamui has brought us a wonderful hard trance track and a fantastic debut single. Kamui is the latest guise of the Stuttgart based production duo Synthflut, who previously went by the moniker Virus Inc, under which they released the single "Are You Ready" with Drizzly recordings.

The A-side original mix opens up with pounding drum builds wreathed in hints of synth. More bits and bits of synth are added as the drums build, before bringing in some wonderful reversed- samples and other bits of electronic aural paranoia that quickly come to a climax and fade before a wonderful euphoric breakdown. In short order the lead synth line rolls in, shielded by the eerie vocal-samples that would sound at home in a psy-trance track, as the production blisfully re-builds and hums along at 139 bpm, accompanied by a pounding bassline. As the song reaches its end, the samples and other synth noises that prefaced the lead re-enter, only to be overpowed by a climatic break that sees the song come to a close. The main synth line is true anthem material and I would not be surprised to see this track spun by A-list hard trance Dj's around the world in the months to come.
The B-Side Energy Mix opens with a siren-like sound shrouded by some synths heavily doped up on effects. Added to this is a pulsing bassline and drum track, which builds before re-introducing a psy-trance-esque synth, that is the biggest distinguishing characteristic between this mix and the original. This is followed by the same vocal hits that are heavily doped up on effects, although the effect is not as striking as on the A-Side. The entrance of the lead is less-dramatic as well, as the mix fails to live up to its name, seeming almost anameic in contrast to the well-produced A-Side.
Conclusion:
The Original Mix is a brilliant track and a very original sound that will no doubt bring two good young producers some deserved recognition, while the B-side presents another solid effort and begs a listen. A fine addition to the Overdose catalog and a sure favorite for any hard-trance fan, and a track I look forward to hearing in mix sets to come. Pure class.
