Israelian DJ and producer Robert Gitelman brings us his two latest singles altogether on one slice of vinyl. Last years 'Things 2 Say' was picked up and in heavy rotation among the key players. Will these two tracks continue the tradition?
Robert produces his tracks together with his mate Yaron Martinez, who is better known under his 'Jaron Inc.' guise. The both of them also run the highly acclaimed 'G&M Project' and '2 Players' projects. During the past few months, Robert has remixed artists like Elles de Graaf, Seven Sun and Ian van Dahl. 'Children Of The Sun' has already been played by Armin during one of his radio shows...
A-side: Children Of The Sun A thin kick, subtle shakers and a repeating stab sound are the only things you will hear when putting the needle on the vinyl during the first minute. Gradually, more percussion starts to be added, and after a while one of them typical Robert / Jaron synths enters in between the other elements. The synth itself gives the track quite a boost, which it kind of needed after the rather repetitive build-up. Sounding fuller and more energetic, we proceed onwards to the first real break in the track. A little bassline swirls along, being backed up by what sounds like some sort of techy synth with a repeating set of chords. An Asian sounding sound comes in, playing a simple, but very catchy melody. At all of the sudden, the percussion and bassline return, creating a tiny climax right before the real thing starts. All this is definitely no standard stuff: the build-up of the whole track is rather original compared to todays standard trance. The main climax itself works out very nicely, mainly because the backing synths play along with the Asian melody in a cool way. Robert and Jaron do this in most of their tracks, surely a thing they shouldn't let go in any future productions. Though the melody is rather simple, and might not sound too stomping at home, I'm sure this wíll work out on the dancefloor, mainly because of the unexpected mini-climax after the Asian melody and the whole structure of the track. Groovy stuff!
B-side: As You Wish This side starts off in a way that reminded me alot of Jaron Inc.'s 'Nothing To Lose'. A highly muted kick causes some subtle filtered percussion to come in, right before the full bassdrum and bassline hit the speakers. The b-line itself is, again, very G&M-like, with some subtle chordchanges along the way. A set of backing melodies come in, one sounding a bit like the beepy synth that DJ Choose uses a lot in his productions these days. Building and building, we soon get to the break, which firstly consists of one of the synths we heard earlier. A very cool, thin bongo-sound enters, giving the track this kind of special feeling during this part. The main melody isn't too complicated, but definitely does its work by the use of a more energetic sound during the climax. Not as good as 'Children Of The Sun', but surely a nice track.
Conclusion:
Two very decent tracks from the Israelian masterminds. Side A has this kind of original structure throughout the whole track, and uses a cool melody during the break and climax. The flipside is more of a 'standard' Robert and Jaron track, though they have done a terrific job by adding the subtle bongo's during the break (yes, I kind of like them). The melody is OK, but not thát special. All in all a good release once again, let's see what they will bring us in the future!
