Fade Records comes out with the vinyl release of two songs off the Audiotour CD. Derek Howell and Peter Martin's Talk To Me Goose and Motive's ABE. Are both versions as good as the Audiotour's CD.
Audiotour Sampler – Talk To Me Goose/ABE (128 Mix) (FAT 100)
Don’t let the word Sampler fool you, these are 2 full versions of tracks that were used on Chris Fortier’s amazing Audiotour CD (to be reviewed shortly on ivibes.nu)
Chris Fortier is a true journeyman, the Florida born DJ/Producer/Artist/Remixer/Label Owner has been around since the early 90’s. His output is sometime overlooked, most people don’t realize that he founded the Balance Agency with Jimmy Van M in the mid 90’s, some know that he records under the alias Fade (with co-owner of Fade Records and production partner Neil Kolo). He has been around and done a lot of things over his career and just recently, he put out the well received mixCD called Chris Fortier presents Audiotour. These are two of the tracks that are on the mixCD, the first song is the full version of The Alley Qats – Talk To Me Goose, the duo is made up of Derek Howell and Peter Martin. Derek Howell has become very much in demand in a short time, with many deejays playing his tracks and many people want to work with him. Derek Howell and Peter Martin are going to be future stars in the music industry. The flipside is Motive featuring Abagale Fisher – ABE (Real 128 Mix); Motive is made up of two Floridians, one named Tom Anderson and the other is Mark Hunt. The mixCD contains the original mix but this is slightly different version.
Audiotour Sampler – Talk To Me Goose/ABE (128 Mix) (FAT 100)
A1.The Alley Qats – Talk To Me Goose
This begins with a bangin bassline, which coupled with the sound effects at the very beginning, just slaps you senseless and immediately grabs your attention. The track uses a lot of backing percussion at the very start and this record is really unique. I heard all the hype about Peter Martin and Derek Howell and I thought it was not deserved till I heard this record and only a minute in, you can tell that they are very talented and you instantly realize that they will be names to watch for in future. This record contains so much drive and energy, once it starts to pick up, you can tell it would fit well in a John Digweed set. The record has an “ohhhhh” vocal used but it is more of just an add on that stays in the background. This record is not really one, it sounds like it is 2-3 records in one because after a few minutes, the track breaks down into this percussion mode, where it is just drums galore, you think this is just a short interlude before it goes back to the original mold but that is not the case. I give The Alley Qats credit for daring to be dramatically different and that is probably why Chris Fortier snapped this tune up so quickly and included it on his mix CD. A guitar riff then comes in and starts to get going, it is placed near the background. The song continues in this mold for a while longer with the percussion galore then goes back to the more banging sound from the introduction. “Talk To Me Goose” is a top tune that will be loved by most big name deejays because of the drive and fierce minimal energy.
A2.Motive featuring Abagale Fisher – ABE (128 Real Mix)
This is a remix of the first track of the Audiotour CD but this is a 128bpm mix of it. The song is a slow builder with amazing vocals and it works well for something to start a set with. The song takes a while to get going and it takes about a minute to get to the main part. Abagale Fisher’s vocals are brilliant here, behind her voice are some quirky sound effects that add to the song. The main part has a nice hooky bassline, coupled with the great vocals and the catchy riff, it certainly does a lot of subtle things well. A lot of people may not like this because it is too slow but I think it is a good record that could start a bunch of sets. The song is backed with real drums that make up the drumline, most tracks use drum machines to make them but I think it adds quite a flavor to the song. The only problem with the song is that it is very short but I think it works very well here and I like the house sounds of Motive.
Conclusion:
If you like forward thinking music or something completely different from the norm then this record is for you. Talk to me goose makes the record worth the cost alone, the flipside is a nice house track that is perfect for chilling out or for you deejays out there that want something slower to build a set with. Chris Fortier shows how smart he is in picking records for his label, these are both gems, get them. If you like both tunes, pick up his Audiotour mixCD, it is also worth the price.
