The boys from Dark Moon join DJ Greenhead for No Fate. This is released on the Planet Traxx section of the respected Drizzly Music label and is out now!
Original Mix
Starting off with funky percs, we are soon treated to some acid, which is quite high pitched, and really comes into its own when the bassline is added. From here the kick takes off and some open hats help progress this further. The vocal sample comes in next, and we lose the kick but gain a softer one for a soft breakbeat, which filters out leaving us just with a low pad and a plucked melody. Percussive elements soon rejoin us and the voice of ‘there’s no fate’ is repeated on & on, with the acid soon coming back and the vocal adding another line, before the kick and melody take us on towards the latter half of the song, and the outro. Fairly standard offering here, 6/10
Dark Moon Remix
Can noted producers Dark Moon add a good remix here? Let’s find out. Promising to be a bit harder, this is soon true as the kick and percussions remind me a lot of that used by Cosmic Gate a couple of years ago, and it’s very driving, allowing the hardness to shine through. The ‘No Fate’ vocal is present again, but it doesn’t really overpower you at all, so it’s not too annoying and definitely doesn’t detract from the melody and range of sounds used. The best part in this remix is when it breaks down into a tweaked saw lead, which really hits the spot. Add to this a clever breakbeat section, and it really moves things along without having to be repetitive. The tune carries onto the outro after a repeat of the main melody and a bit of the vocal in places, and is definitely a stronger offering than the original – 8/10
Conclusion:
The track evens out at 7/10. The original is ok, but the acid isn't really powerful enough nor is the kick to be taken too seriously, however flip the track over and you have a great melodic hard-trancer courtesy of Dark Moon's good remix!
