Ron van den Beuken's long awaited follow up to the massive 'Timeless' is finally here. This one is being ramped by people such as Paul van Dyk, Marcel Woods, Johan Gielen, Blank & Jones and Tim Stark. Has it been worth the wait...?
Its been a year since 'Timeless', the successful predecessor of 'Endless' was released. It came in the form of quite a few different remixes, most notably the one under van den Beuken's own name. 'Endless' follows that particular style in both the Original and Rough Mix which are on this piece of vinyl.

A: Original Mix It doesn't take long for the unmistakable van den Beuken bassline to start rolling in. Some might argue that its being overused, but each time I hear this particular bassline in a RvdB production, a quality tune is never far behind it, so expectations are high. More trademark stuff follows as a small break introduces the familiar sounding stabs of synth. The synth itself carries a lot of strength - even in these beginning sections - where it plays a simple rhythm, tapped out with painstaking precision. However the track comes into its own after the first breakdown where the synth breaks out into its full 'melody', playing a few different notes stabbed out into a frighteningly sinister sounding dark and rhythmic melody. As with previous tracks - namely 'Timeless' and RvdB's remix of Blank & Jones' 'A Forest' - the synth relents for a small section and is allowed to build itself back up quietly as it did during the start of the track. We get a repeat performance of the breakdown and sinister stabbing synth lead once more before the track rolls itself on to an end. Very Ron van den Beuken, but very strong and driving all the same.
AA: Rough Mix Oh my. From the very first beat of this mix you just know you're in for something special here. The kick is hard and snappy and its accompanied by some of the most deep, gruelling and downright dirty bass I've heard in a track for a long while. It sounds damn good. As far as track and instrument structure goes, its the same as the Original. The lead synth begins its part, but its been tweaked and has a larger sound - deeper, richer and stronger. Coupled with the bass and prominent techno-esque hi-hats a properly fearsome sound is being generated. It gets better though - the overall feel and sound after the breakdown, when the synth comes back in full force playing the full melody, is simply breathtaking. Driving strength, killer bass and a menacing, sinister melody are all combined to produce some pretty damned awesome sounds. As with the Original, the synth drops off and is allowed to re-establish itself, following on to the final section of pure power. Hard Tech Trance, whatever you want to call it, this is where its at.
Conclusion:
Classic Ron van den Beuken here. The Original, even with the rolling bass and strong synths, seems to have a flatness to it - like it has the energy, but isn't using it to its full potential. The Rough Mix though, realises every last drop of this potential and blasts out a storming production - super gutsy bass and phenomenal sounding synths finished off with a sinister and forceful lead. Superb!
