Nu-Skool Breakbeat Leader Adam Freeland's Marine Parade label has had some problems and they recently released nothing and basically disappeared, well they are officially back in business, find out what went down
Adam Freeland is known for his Free*Land band, his crazy antics, his deejay sets and his Brighton based label called Marine Parade. Well since i:Vibes.nu is getting a ton of emails asking what the hell happened?, we figured we would tell the story. Marine Parade was a label for Adam Freeland's releases and his artist friends Ils and Evil 9 as well as others. Well at the start of 2004, they released the remixes of Supernatural by Free*Land and then basically went into hibernation. The website was supposed to be done in March 2004 but that was put off for months and then people wondered what the hell was going on, so this is what happened, according to Evil 9 on their own website.
Marine Parade was selling more records than ever, the demise was not caused because of mp3's or file sharing. Their ex-distributors went bankrupt and the debt collectors dropped a bill on Marine Parade and they could not pay the bill, so they went bankrupt, that's why there was no releases. This is an increasing problem for businesses in the electronic music industry, if you recall, this happened to Mara's ChooChoo Label, their distributors went broke and they had to suffer the debts.
So Evil 9's album called "You can be special too" was put back but that will be out very soon and for the hardcore fans, it should be worth the wait. Ils's album will come out at some point but it was put on hold. So as of September 1st.2004, Marine Parade is back in business and they have restructured and they are now run by Hope Management, which is a welcome relief to many of us breakbeat fans because one of the better Breaks labels is still around. So expect to hear more things from Ils, Evil 9 and Adam Freeland in the future including Freeland's We Want Your Vote Tour to hit North America in September and Europe in October.
