The most recent record from Netherlands based KYR Records has arrived. It is 'Air' by Deep Orbit and its earning places in the record boxes of people like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, Above & Beyond, Thrillseekers, Lange and Jon O'Bir to name but a few. Lets take a look...
KYR Records was established by three people almost 10 years ago now. The founders were manager and producer Mauro Castellazzi , musician P. Zuidema and jock DJ Ramon. KYR began to produce its progressive trance sound with the help of some tribal and techy influences and continues to do so today. The newest release, 'Air', by Deep Orbit comes in two flavours - a Tribal Jedi Feat. WVE Remix and the (more simply named) Genix Deep Mix.
:: Deep Orbit - Air :: KYR Records :: KYR326
1) Tribal Jedi Feat. WVE Remix This first track is based heavily on strong percussive elements. From the start there is a simple selection of instruments coupled with a brief encounter with an eerie and desolate sounding synth, creating a feeling of loneliness. There are various small breaks featuring different selections of percussion, really emphasising the different combinations of sounds and highlighting the attention to detail. As the track progresses, a steady kick carries everything along as does a fairly subtle and simple bassline, as to not take away the focus on the percussion.
This is definitely a 'journey' track. You really get this feeling about half way through when the beat, bass and most of the percussion are dropped for another quieter synth playing out some smooth and lonely notes. Towards the end, the track picks up - through the use of some lively percussion - and gains some more vigour so as not to end on too much of an easy going note.
2) Genix Deep Mix Genix's Deep Mix begins softly with sparse electro-synth chords coming in and out of some simple hi-hats and a soft, rounded and muted thud, as opposed to a full on kick. The kick soon makes an appearance though, but it still benefits from this thudding beat hidden deep within the background. Moving on slowly, a subtle bassline, a repeating synth melody and some nice long pads in the background are all blended in. These elements all grow and grow, fulfilling the track minute by minute.
This is so very relaxing to listen to and it well deserves the name of a 'Deep Remix'. No matter what part you choose to listen to - the steady yet interesting percussion, the eerie pads, the hypnotic synth melody or just the gentle bass, you will experience some calming sensation. This is heightened more because sections of this track come in waves - the more synth driven elements build and fall slowly and gently. The final 2 to 3 minutes of the track are spent winding down, removing layers bit by gentle bit.
Conclusion:
I'm really impressed with this track. I'm normally more interested in uplifting, melodic or harder trance sounds. But here these two mixes of 'Air' have captivated my attention with waves of calm and a beautiful blend of sounds and instruments.
