Blank & Jones have completed their 3rd 'The Mix' compilation album. What trance wonders does this double CD album hold...?

Not long since their sixth album, 'Monument' was released and a year since The Mix 02 was released, Piet Blank & Jaspa Jones have put together the third instalment in their 'The Mix' trance compilation series. The tracklisting goes a little something like this:

As you can see, both CDs are packed with some of the latest, quality trance.

CD1 is a journey in the form of a big peak, with lots of mini peaks and troughs along it. After a customary short Blank & Jones intro track, the mix kicks off with slightly harder edged trance such as Martin Roth's remixes of 'Perfect Silence' and 'The Orange Theme'. Harder and darker tracks - 'Hangin` On A String', 'In-Silence' - follow, interspersed with trancier, more uplifting tracks like the wonderful 'Typhoon' and 'From Dark To Light'. The main gist of this CD is that it gradually gets tougher towards the end. The mixing of the tracks is good and well timed, but is simplistic and snappy at times, making it more like switching than mixing, but this has no ill effect on the blend of great tunes being supplied here.

CD2 differs from CD1's structure and instead takes a more classical approach, starting with the trancier uplifting tracks and making use of vocals, before progressing into harder, darker and tougher tracks. Highlights of the trance to tough movement are tracks like 'Synaesthesia 2004', 'Santiago', 'The Promise', 'Bandhar', 'Flowtation' and 'Radiance'. Speaking of the latter, this CD eases off towards the end with some deep and more mellow tracks to end off this great album. The mixing on CD2 feels longer and smoother, but still keeps it simple and snappy at times.

Conclusion:
With a tracklisting like this, its hard to go wrong really. Blank & Jones have picked out the cream of the current crop in terms of trance, mixed them well and in doing so produced a pretty fabulous double CD trance compilation. Thumbs up for Blank & Jones - The Mix 03!
