One of Anjunabeat's newest tracks is the latest production from Above & Beyond's Tranquility Base alias, called 'Surrender'...
The Anjunabeats founding trio behind Above & Beyond (Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki) have produced another track under the Tranquility Base alias. It has big footsteps to follow from the popular 'Razorfish', released a few years back. 'Surrender' should be seen on the shelves around the end of the month.
:: Above & Beyond Pres. Tranquility Base - Surrender :: Anjunabeats :: ANJ034
A: Original Mix 'Surrender' is lively to begin with, sporting a steady kick, light percussion and a simple off beat bass. There are some synthy sfx style tasters that can be heard as a minute or so passes by. The track changes completely though, the bassline takes a subtle backseat, the beat is gone and a synth with a very round, thick sound and a lot of fullness to it plays a simple melody over and over. The kick joins back in and slowly the track builds itself back up, re-introducing the elements that appeared so abruptly at the very beginning. As it does this though, smooth pads are present playing chords in the background, providing variety and a difference to what you've already heard. The soft and delicate synth melody changes along with each chord and pad smoothly and effortlessly. This track is a true floaty ride, its just a sea of pleasant sound. As things progress, a female vocal echoes in and out at certain points - its very hard to tell what the words actually are, but that doesn't matter because it sounds just right and fits excellently. A short and quiet break as was heard right at the start of the track begins the final ease-down section of this delicate and pleasurable piece of trance.
Conclusion:
'Surrender' is a very subtle and gentle piece of work. No giant riffs and synths, no complex multi-structured melodies, just simple ideas executed with excellence. A wonderful smooth and delicate trance production.
