Arkus P. teams up with techno-man Robert Natus to create the leatest release on the Gang Go Music imprint, 'Hardcore Salsa'...
Previously, there were Sven Wittekind and Robert Natus Hardmix versions of this track available. now the Original Mix is back on vinyl, along with two new mixes - a Headcleaners Remix and a Paffendorf Remix. Lets see how this piece of adventurous techno fares.
:: Robert Natus & Arkus P. - Hardcore Salsa :: Gang Go Music
1) Hardcore Salsa (Original Mix) The Original Mix begins hard. Very hard. It's hard in the middle and it ends hard too. Hard and dirty techno, very nice! The track has a particularly grainy and raw feel and sound. Along witth the usual percussive techno elements, there is a good and almost stumbling double snare hit which keeps things jerking along. There are short bursts of latin style singing and percussion to break things up (and provide a name for the track!). These do quite well really - it's one of those additions that bring an odd twist to a track and make it different to listen to. Similar, I guess to tracks by Cave, which use similar latino drum beats. However, some people may find this track a little bit over-vocal. Other than that it's good, hard stomping techno.
2) Hardcore Salsa (Headcleaners Mix) The Headcleaners Mix is totally different. It sports a standard kick and percussion with a soft and clubby sounding off-beat bassline. Rough edged synths begin playing a constant drone of repeated notes just as we get the first tastes of the latin vocal line. Half way through the track, after a percussive break, the synth evolves and plays a slower scale of stabbed notes. This change in pace and rhythm seems to open the track out and a rather spacey and kind of desolate atmosphere is created. Pretty much an average track, again some people might not enjoy the vocals as they have a really clubby feel to them.
3) Hardcore Salsa (Paffendorf Mix) Paffendorf make a return to Gang Go with their own interpretation of 'Hardcore Salsa'. The mix is backed by a nice and hefty beat, but the bassline sounds a bit out of place. It reminds me of the type of clubby sound you might have heard two or three years back. This mix basically utilises the latin beat and vocals to its fullest all the way through the track. It moves along nicely and has a certain 'feel good' factor about it. However, this is strictly one for the cheesey clubs.
Conclusion:
The original is great - hard and banging techno with a quiky little twist. The Headcleaners Remix lacks energy while the Paffendorf Remix will stay in the cheesier clubs. The Original would earn a 7 by itself, because I do like that mix, but with the others, they get a 6. Check out the original if you like techno.
