Leon Bolier brings us a new production under a new alias! Precuror - Pulsar has been tried, tested and approved by crowds dancing in front of people like Marco V, Eddie Halliwell and Judge Jules - lets take a look at this one...
Leon Bolier is also responsible for trance productions and remixes under the familiar aliases Mindsensation, Subsphere and Boiler Room. This time around, hes changed style slightly and aimed for techy edged hard trance split into two mixes - the Original Mix and the Dub Mix.
:: Precursor - Pulsar :: RR :: RR024
A: Pulsar (Original Mix) The initial sections of 'Pulsar' are highly percussive and are fuelled by a loud, thumping kick and a constant, rolling Ron van den Beuken-meets-Sam Sharp kind of bassline. Some quiet and ghostly synths are used to add a softer vein but overall the track retains its immediate hard and techy essence. Little takes place until you hit the breakdown in the middle of the track, where after a quiet section, a techy trance synth with a cutting sound begins to build up. You're quickly and forcefully launched into a powerful section with quick and repetitive stabs of synth creating a hook filled with tension and withheld force. This extremely hard and techy edged sound will bring the energy on the dancefloor right up and hold it in place with ease.
AA: Pulsar (Dub Mix) The Dub Mix of 'Pulsar' is more or less the same as the Original Mix up until the breakdown. Here, the same crisp and techy synth gives the notion of a build up but instead of unleashing when the track drops in, it remains more so in the background where it provides a thick and deep ambience. There is still a stabbing synth playing its part but this time its far away in the distance, merging with the rest of the track creating a sound with fullness instead of a main hook. As opposed to a peak time floor filler, the Dub Mix will nicely provide a growing progression for the beginnings of an energetic set.
Conclusion:
A good genre-crossing effort here. The Original Mix has a lot of power tied up behind its energetic techy synth and the Dub Mix takes a more smoother approach, distributing the power evenly across the track.
