Anjunabeats latest track is on its way here and its none other than Endre's long awaited track, 'I Kill For you'. Has all the waiting and the hype been worth it...?
Since Endre's massive track landed back in January/February - the almighty 'Kallocain' - people have awaited his next production. There have been a few trancey remixes on the ASOT label, but now its time for Anjunabeats to shine once more. Endre - I Kill For You...
:: Endre - I Kill For You :: Anjunabeats :: ANJ035
A: I Kill For You (Original Mix) You're eased into the track with a punchy beat and some airy and distant sfx. The soft and rounded bassline pulsates and grows, urged on by intermittent whooshes of sfx. Gentle backing synths take you further into the track, but you're made to wait before the track really unfolds. As with 'Kallocain', this track is a well planned journey of trance. A change in tone and strength of bass signifies something is near and the first melodic elements, along with some smooth and flowing chord changes begin to unfold. The initial melody is so subtle that you're humming along to it before you even realise its creeping in. Subtlety is the entire essence of this track. All the sounds are expertly blended, nothing sounds out of place. A short breakbeat breakdown is where the touching melody gains most of its strength. Played by synths resembling wind instruments - not dissimilar to a flute - it bears a unique and ghostly sound which will stick in your mind. This track is delightful - gentle, subtle - more so a composition than a production, such is the way it plays.
B: I Kill For You (Probspot Mix) The mix by Probspot has a chunkier feel due to the different choice of kick and deep, gruelling bass. Percussion is used more heavily here and the first half of the track is dominated by a coarse backing synth playing a stabbed melodic chord progression. Again, the breakdown brings in the melody as the backing synth quietens. This time, the lead is played by a very xylophone-esque instrument - sustained high pitch notes with a very piercing sound and a fragile, delicate feel. This mix feels a lot more laid back than the Original Mix plus the percussion and stabbed synth provide an electronic edge to the sound. Nice, but it doesn't touch the Original.
Conclusion:
Endre fans won't be disappointed. The Original is another masterpiece crafted to perfection, as addictive as 'Kallocain', full of all the wonderful subtleties one could imagine.
