Filo & Peri are back on the A State Of Trance label with another pair of progressive trance productions. The American duos latest are '(c)1999' and 'Radiate'...
:: Filo & Peri - (c) 1999 / Radiate :: A State Of Trance :: ASOT026
A: (c)1999 (c)1999 is backed by a snappy kick and some groovy and grinding chorused bass. As the long beginning to this track progresses, you're subjected to a variety of things. Most noticable are the long sweeping pads which later become the main attraction and a very nice but rather short lived acidline jabbing away in the background. The breakdown comes in two parts. The first is a short and quiet section featuring the pads and some bass. The second part is a longer build up section, where a trancey synth plays a hook over ever-increasing snare rolls which boost you back into the main section of the track. The focus here is on chord progression, which you can't miss thanks to the pads. The track remains samey throughout but Filo & Peri still retain that drive and infectious melodic element to hold your interest.
B: Radiate Radiate is very slow to start. The first few minutes are taken up by a simple beat and percussive progression. Just as boredom is setting in, a synth starts to play a short little melody and the track begins to pick up. The track deadens for another bass/beat section before a quiet and synthy breakdown. A new melody is introduced after this - a simple and gentle repetition to complement the continuous pads. Nothing changes until the synth and pads die away and the track beats its way to an end, just like it beated its way through the start.
Conclusion:
'(c)1999' is a nice track, fairly melodic with an overall nice feeling to it. The vinyl is let down though by 'Radiate'. Unfortunately its uneventful, samey and doesn't do much to capture the interest of the listener.
