Theres more new material on its way from trance label Galactive. This time its a set of two tracks from Jan Gustafsson. Do these two live up to Galactive's high quality standards of trance...?
The two tracks in question here are the rather contrastedly named 'Future History' and 'True Fiction'. Jan has already produced two tracks for Galactive - 'Eternal Light' and 'Hallucination' which were both excellent tracks. This time around, the productions are kept as smooth and trancey as ever...
:: Jan Gustafsson - Future History / True Fiction :: Galactive :: GALSO009
A: Future History This track is based upon long and gradual progressions. It has a nice pace so avoids being too slow. The first thing that really grabbed my attention was where the track properly kicks off for the first time a minute or so in. The kick, percussion and ambient sprinkles of synth get a boost from an energetic and very pronounced bassline which really carries the track along with ease. From here its a constant growth of various ambient synths and pads swirling in the background - very atmospheric but with an energetic edge due to that spot on bassline. After a breakbeat section and the quiet and ambient breakdown, stronger synths take hold, continuing the tracks progression well. They retain an ambient feel but at the same time are very well defined. Along with the rest of the luscious sweeping synths and that prolific bassline, you end up with a wonderfully smooth and flowing piece of trance.
B: True Fiction 'True Fiction' shares some similarities with its A-side relative. Although you can tell right away that its more mellow and has a tad less pace, a few minutes in a distinct bassline is used to provide instant and constant momentum. The bass this time round has a slightly more electronic and grittier sound which is softened by plenty of surrounding synth activity. Again, the following section is a long and gradual build which really lets you get into the track and really absorb its nice sound and mellow vibe. The breakdown is beautiful - smooth ambience blended with deep bass which lead effortlessly to the onset of a synth driven melody. The synth itself sounds exquisite and is a real showcase for the sound of trance itself. As the track drops back in, the synth and the mellow ambience that flows along with it remind me of tracks like 'Cinema' by Capetown. Really nice, flowing tracks with many small melodic elements that really envelop the listener. There is a short breakbeat section to split things up a little towards the end which adds some extra variety. All in all, put this one on, close your eyes and one of those trance induced smiles won't be very far away at all.
Conclusion:
Superb trance by Jan Gustafsson. Both tracks are excellent, but my favourite is 'True Fiction' on the B-side. The melody and synth along with the near perfect overall feeling that the track exudes does it for me. Fantastic!
