Timo Maas's label comes out with another scorching dirty flithy record. How filthy? find out
Quadsistereo – Sex Fiend (Fourtwenty Records)
Timo Maas’s label has had a great 2004 and they are following up the amazing 2CD Mix based on the Ibizan club night with this 12” release. Quadsistereo is Cirillo (the Italian house deejay and producer) and some of his friends. The keyword here is dirty as hell house and we know that Timo Maas is a big fan of really dirty records, Locodice’s Phatt Dope Shit was one of the first of the ones that fourtwenty released. The music industry seems to not put out enough of dirty records that contain either a dirty groove or a dirty vocal or both but Timo Maas wants to give the public what they really like.
Quadsistereo – Sex Fiend (4:20 Records)
A1 – Original B1 – Dub B2 – Bonus Cut
A1 – Original
The song starts with a nice percussion and not much else, then a few claps enter and some quirky noises join in about half a minute into the song. The song gets going with a dirty vocal and dirty groove about a minute in. The vocal is almost robotic and it is really sexy, it talks about how much she loves the person and how she is his sex fiend. The vocal does not do much at this point but as the song starts to progress, the vocal really grows on you. Cirillo seems to have a real vision here and you don’t really completely see it till near the end of the track. The song contains the repetitive vocal but the bassline is hypnotic and addictive and the just plain dirty. About four minutes in, the vocal drops out and another addictive riff joins in and you can see why a lot of top deejays are playing it and why the crowds are loving it. The only problem that I have with the track, it is far too long but it is certainly a dirty record.
B1 – Dub Mix
The song starts with the same everything as the original mix. You tend to appreciate more of the riffs here. The bassline seems to be thicker and the dirty groove is highlighted even more. I’m not sure what I like more, the dub or the original mix but it certainly gives you a choice, which is always a smart thing to do. You can go with the dirty vocal or you can use the dub mix and layer an acapella over it, so it should keep both types of music lovers happy and I can see Steve Lawler doing wonders with it. Some people will choose to use an even dirtier acapella or some will just go with the original mix. The great thing about this label is that Timo Maas is a journeyman deejay and producer who has been around for a long time and he understands what the typical clubber wants to hear from the deejay, which is why he probably snapped this song up immediately.
B2 – Bonus Cut
This starts immediately with the hypnotic bassline and groove that the original and the dub mix used. The vocal comes back in but it seems quicker and more together and this is much better than the first two tracks. You hear the vocal repeat “Slave”, with a male vocal behind it and this is more to the point than the first two tracks. I like this because it is straight to the point. The bassline has harsher beats and it is certainly more in your face. The vocal reappears and repeats “Give it to me” and now you realize that you will lose yourself on the dancefloor to this. It then goes back to the “Slave” word like before and the bassline starts to wrap itself around you by this time. The track should have been called the addictive mix and it does not change much from now till the end. It goes from “Give it to me” and “Slave”.
Conclusion:
Dirty sleezy vocal house at its best. Timo Maas’ label sure knows how to turn out solid tracks and this is no different. Watch for more of Cirillo because I think he will become a even bigger fixture on the house music circuit. Well Done Cirillo!
Out October 2004
