The ever consistent Dedicated label once again spoil us with another great release. Here Sunset Highway employs the brilliance of Mark Norman to back up the Original Mix. Read on..
Original Mix: Right from the off, the melodies and pads are growing in this mix and inserting interest along the way. A fairly minimal build up leads into the haunting, atmospheric break. Here the subtle lead melody plods along over the pads while around it the percussion begins to grow and grow. The bassline and kick is re-introduced well and the track is off again. The bassline is deep and fat which adds a massive amount of appeal to the track. From here the tune plods along effortlessly whilst all the time keeping the interest high. The track then drops into a mini break which signifies the end of the journey well.
Mark Norman Remix: From the first kick, Mark Norman’s unique production style is apparent. The heavy bass is introduced soon in as the other fx and percussion grow around it. The familiar melody of the original begins to creep in well amongst the other sounds. As we hit the break, the Mark Norman sound heightens with strong pads and fx. A swelling synth introduces the much more apparent lead as the kick and bass return to pound the dancefloor. Here the track again paces along with minimal changes before the key change arrives at just the right time! The melodies merge and the energy of the track is released. This continues for a short time before all is dropped and the heavy bass and kick see the track out.
Conclusion:
A good strong release on Dedicated which sees 2 alternative mixes to choose from. Between them, there should definitely be something for most DJ’s as both mixes have their own qualities which work in most sets!
