The 4th release from the Captured Label is upon us. This time label boss Mike Shiver teams up with American starlet Elevation!
Mike Shiver Mix
The more upbeat of the two mixes, this one begins with a strong kickdrum and the first instance of the melody is upon is very early on, soon joined by more percussive elements. The bassline and the second instance of melody are with us at about one minute in, with a vocal sample being not far behind that. The vocal slowly progresses and is not very loud, allowing all of the other elements in the track to be heard at this point. Breaking down into a delicate string progression which is followed by the main vocal section just after the third minute. The vocals are very nicely sung by Carrie Skippers here, and when the kick rejoins us later on it really helps add to the atmosphere of the vocals, both driving each other along. A piano melody comes in after this and the track continues, with a breakbeat section later on to help keep it original for the full length of the track. My only qualm with this version is that it maybe drags out for 1-2 minutes too much, it's lovely but I'd find myself wanting to mix out before 8-9 minutes time has surpassed. 7/10
Elevation Mix
Since being championed by Markus Schulz with his track "Clear Blue" Elevation has become one of the most sought after names in the American range of producers. Adopting a more laid back approach with his version. The vocals are here again and the melody is very gentle with lots of atmosphere created during the pad sections. Unfortunately this is where my praise has to stop on this version, it seems to lack something that the original had, I understand it's meant to be less upbeat, but to compare it to a track in a similar style that I reviewed yesterday in "blue on blue - Espen Remix" which I honestly feel has the same style but is done so in a lot better fashion than this one. 5/10
Conclusion:
A nice release from Mike here, keeping up his growing reputation amongst the uplifting trance fans that is slightly let down be an uninspired mix from Elevation. It's not bad but it just doesn't take the track to the heights that it could do.
