One of the latest ASOT offerings is from proggy trance producers, Outback. Empirical labs make an appearance to remix this one...
:: Outback - Cause In Fact :: A State Of Trance :: ASOT031
A: Cause In Fact (Original Mix) The first thing that grabs you about this track is the bassline. Its a powerful, undulating force that commands the track from start to finish and adds a lot of distinctive character to this track. Its always good to hear something a bit different! As we go further into the track, you can easily hear Outback's trademark sound - all the coarse synths and electronic sfx poked in here and there. Things remain generally minimal and driving (thanks to that bassline) and some more softer and trancier synths are used to play a melodic part after the breakdown in the middle of the track.
B: Cause In Fact (Empirical Labs Remix) When I saw this remix was by Empirical Labs, I got quite excited as the first thing that sprung to mind was their incredible 'Turtle Beach' from almost a year ago. Unfortunately it wasn't what I was expecting. This remix is quite minimal like the original and very uneventful all the way through, aside from the breakdown and the short main section which follows. A lot of Outback's elements are retained. The breakdown is fairly long and quiet and employs some interesting chord progressions played by a blend of nice synths. Stronger, trancier synths play for a while during the more energetic post-breakdown section but things soon calm down and hit the constant, minimal level we were subjected to for far too long at the beginning of the track.
Conclusion:
Typical Outback stuff here, which is in no way a bad thing! Its made special by the great bassline. However the Empirical Labs Remix was an unfortunate disappointment. Maybe one for the more deep and proggy oriented people out there.
