Matt's back with his monthly update along with reviews of ten new tracks. Read on to find out what's new!
Where has all the vinyl gone!
At the risk of sounding a bit tecky this month I've just gotta shout about the new thing going on the world of Dj'ing. It's the introduction of software mixing. If you've recently been to see Dj's like Sasha, Gabriel & Dresden and Jon 00 Flemming you might have wondered where all the vinyl went and why they're not even playing CD's anymore. The answer is mixing just went virtual and now it can all be done on your laptop. This company called Ableton have just developed a piece of software called 'Live' in which you can get tracks, vocals, beats or any musical part and remix them live like you would in a recording studio but with all the ease of mixing two perfectly matched tunes together off vinyl. It's only just starting to catch on but a year or so from now you're never gonna hear anything like it especially with all the special fx they will now be able to pull off. Each Dj will have total control over the elements of their set allowing them to mix and match any element from virtually any tune. Dj sets will no longer be a string of other peoples records but a unique remix of and rearrangement of tracks. Sets will become kind of like one big bootleg. There's no turning back now cause its definitely the biggest thing that's happened to shape the sound of a liveset since the days when US hip hop Dj's started scratching tunes together on three decks at a time. I've been having a go myself every time I'm on a flight somewhere and its absolutely amazing what you can do with it. Only thing is the DJ is now in danger of looking like a proper geek cause vinyl has still got that certain something when it comes to live performance so lets hope someone comes up with a way to spice it all up a bit.
DECADE
It has now been a decade since Trance started to emerge as a significant part of club culture and my first big tune became one of Pete Tong's first essential new tunes from the trance genre and Paul Oakenfold pioneered the same under the guise of Goah Trance. Well I've been churning out those tunes for over 10 years now so I thought it's about time I released my first album entitled DECADE. The album features the best of all the classics under my various pseudonyms from the past, present and future with all my biggest anthems like 'Beautiful', 'Liberation' and 'Lost Tribe Gamemaster' along with all the club tracks like Moody, Nocturnal Delight, From Russia With love and the current and future releases on my new label Darey Products such as 'Li Kwan - Point Zero 2004', 'Lost Tribe - Possessed' and the first signing and forthcoming release on Matt's new label Darey Products 'Adam White - Ballerina'. Decade is available now exclusively at http://www.dareyproducts.co.uk. To celebrate the Darey Products label and Decade Album launch we're throwing a party on Dec 17th with Knowwhere @ The Fridge in London for more details and advance tickets go to http://www.clubknowwhere.co.uk
PS! Winners of the Decade competition on i:Vibes will be announced today!

Matt Darey November Reviews
On the tunes front there always seems too many to mention so watch out for the massive club mix of Reflekt I need to Feel Loved on Positiva which blends those Ru Da silva stabs with emotive strings and a house beat. This one is doing serious damage on the dancefloors across the nation Also one to watch for is the new White room single Someday and the new Hemstock & Jennings track Passion with huge breakdowns and River Dance drums. All Tracks reviewed can be heard online in the mix with DPDJ at http://www.dareyproducts.co.uk
Art of Trance - Mongoose (Tek^Tonik remix) Platipus This tune has been getting loads of spins in my sets. It's not necessarily a floor filler but its got an addictive pull that grows every time you listen to it. Art of Trance aka Simon Berry follow the massive success of the 1999 trance smash Madagasgar with a tune that features a vocal that sounds like Cold Play and a haunting bit of audio footage from some movie. Underpinned by a a driving progressive bassline it builds with lush synthetic strings and piano arpeggios and then breaks into the enchanting and dreamy vocal melody that sends shivers down your spine. The tek^tonik guys sound quite old skool with productions going back to the 80's under there belt and they take Mongoose to another level from the original and definitely put the magic into the track. Addictive!!! Rating: 5/5
Ridgewalker Find (Andy Moor) Armarda Another Classy progressive trance remix from rising star Andy Moor who is one of the guys behind the creation of the last Tilt release 'What the world doesn't know' and one half of the remix duo Leama & Moor who's of Li Kwan Point Zero was rinsed out by the likes of Tiesto, Sasha and Oakenfold. The track grooves along with his trademark disco electro bass line and a wispy female vocal with some really catchy chopped up vocal hooks and guitar riffs. This guy is definitely the future of progressive trance and it turns out this remix has been sitting on the shelf for ages......ahead of the game mate. Rating: 5/5
Adam White Ballerina (Orig) Darey Products Rising star Adam White is now on his third club smash following 'Reverence' on Darren Tates Mondo label and 'White Room' which was a hit with Tiesto, Armin, PVD & Ferry Corsten to name a few. Now he returns with a track that stands out from the rest with a vocal sample from Martin Grech's 'Open Heart Zoo' (featured in the Lexus Car TV AD campaign) that sounds like Cold Play in Waltz time. Its definitely turning heads and was Armin Van Buren's tune of the week and also Mixmag tune of the month in Nov. Comes in its original lighter trance original mix from Mr White guise and with a harder edged remix from myself. Judge for yourself.
Delerium Silence (Above & Beyond Remix) Netwerk This track will always be a classic in anyone's mind and it's a massive undertaking to try and compete with the legendary Tiesto mix. But hey, that one got well rinsed out and its time for a new interpretation. It's a sure thing anyway but I reckon Above and Beyond have done it justice shining a different light on the tune and bringing it to yet another new generation of trance addicts. In there usual lighter trance style and a slight inversion of the original chords progressions the track rides along with 2 massive breakdowns and loads of space around the vocal. Massive once again. Rating: 4/5
Dido Sand in my shoes (Gabriel & Dresden) Cheeky Whatever these guys touch turns to gold in my eyes and who better to turn an acoustic pop tune into a club smash. The guys behind Motorcycle, Andain and most recently there excellent remix of Above and Beyond's 'No One on Earth' do it again. Not a song that I would personally listen to in its original context but I'm sure it will do the trick with loads of clubbers out there and reinforce Dido's name in the name of all the trancesters out there. A big kick, dirty bassline and off beat synth stabs accompany Dido throughout with two huge breakdowns for the hands in the air massive. Rating: 4/5 Ferry Corsten Sweet Sorrow (Orig) Tsunami After the massive success of Last years 'Body rock' and this summers 'It's time' Ferry returns to a more traditional trancer but still with a flavour of his now distinctive electro trance sound. The track lifts off with some body rock style beats and blips and then breaks into a classic trance breakdown with the big synth arpeggio to match. The breakdown fires out some anthemic chords which open in to a symphony style piece before crashing in with those pounding beats once more. Rating: 4/5
Hiratz Venice Dawn (Orig) SR2 Its got not a lot to do with trance cause it's more like the sound of progressive fused with a real live guitars. I've had the opportunity to drop this when in the US at the beginning of a more proggy set and its beautifully synthetic live sound really works in the right setting. Still they do love there rock in the states so I reckon it was more at home over there than in the UK. For those who loved groups like Garbage and Sneaker pimps you should give it a listen. A lush female vocal drifts over real bass guitar and proggy beats with a distinctively indie rock feel. I really see this a part of a fresh new offshoot of dance music along with songs like Silencer's 'Drown Me'. Rating: 4/5
Sandler Theme Song (Orig) Spinnin Sandler aka Sam Sharp has delivered countless monsters this last year with Ecraig's 'Beat Goes On', his own track 'Deep' and his remix of my own 'Nocturnal Delight'. It looks like his still on the up & up with this classic soul stirring piece that sounds like a theme from a movie like Blade runner. In his usual dark euphoric style the track cruises along with hypnotic beats and a haunting production into the most monumental and longest breakdown I've heard for a while. The suspense and atmosphere really holds you as it builds up with squelching synths and huge synth pads and then kicks in with a fat beat and b-line. Gets them rockin every time teasing the crowd for just about as long as you can before repeating the whole routine again. Rating: 5/5
Vercetti Control (Orig) Lange Lange has made a definite resurgence in my sets with his recent remixes of Thrillseekers 'Nu Life' and his own track of the summer 'Sincere'. Now he returns under yet another guise bringing us his latest hybrid of trance. Crisp beats a bit of percussion and a fat techno b-line really drive things along to a great start before the synths start to filter gradually into the mix. The track progresses into the basic melody and opens up into the inevitable synth-onic breakdown for a bit of the old hands in the air before kicking in once more like a mule on speed. The bass saves the day and seems to do the business in my sets but not one for the crowd who get bored easily without some hook to latch on to. Rating: 4/5
