Michael Splint and the F&W crew are laying the smack down once more with Splint's follow up to his debut release last year...
For a while now, anything that has anything to do with the letters 'F' and 'W' has turned out to be something quite special and this is no exception. There are remixes-a-plenty here - DJ Choose & F step in to blast out their sound, Airbase makes an appearance and theres something a bit different from Blyant & Tusch...
:: Michael Splint Feat. Sasja - Secrets (Broke My Heart) :: F&W Records :: FWREC 007-1
1) Secrets (Broke My Heart) (DJ Choose & F Remix) Choose & F don't hold back and kick things off with a reassuringly tough kick and percussive section. Its not long before the familiar Choose & F bassline kicks in - deep, bassy, gritty and downright dirty. Sticking to their trademark sound we hear a sharp crisp synth play the beginnings of a trancey hook and also those heavily synthed string minor chords which add stacks of depth and create a dark and sinister atmosphere. Real goosebump territory. The breakdown introduces the main hook with fantastic power, as you'd expect, and builds to an incredible peak before letting rip once and for all. Powerful, quality stuff.
There is also a vocal version of this, which features the lovely Sasja singing some spooky and moody sounding vocals. A nice touch - both versions are great, it'll just come down to whether you want it vocal at the time.
2) Secrets (Broke My Heart) (Original) The Original is much more trance based than the tough, driving force that Choose & F mustered up. The bassline is soft and springy and is coaxed gently along by a soft, smooth synth which dances around a few notes over and over. More layers are piled on - beautiful pads in the background plus an additional crisp synth hitting a few notes along the way. As the track progresses, one synth dominates and knocks out the melody smoothly with its clean and crisp sound. There is a calm and ambient breakdown which lets you bask in the thick sound of the pads and synths before upping the volume and kicking back in with a true trancey style.
Again, there is a vocal version of this. Lots of well sung vocals throughout the track which complement the synths and add another element to catch your interest. Probably the most vocal of all the mixes that are available.
Conclusion:
More cracking stuff from the F&W direction. Michael Splint has produced a great track, Sasja has done some great vocal work and Choose & F have done some great re-mixing! So overall, great track! Don't forget to check out the remixes!
