Another rather cool white label has cropped up again - this time its 'Footmassage' by MacMark and theres something in it almost everybody should recognise...
MacMark, from the Love Fist and Donald & Giles projects has turned out this little gem and E-Craig steps in to add his personal touch...
:: MacMark - Footmassage :: WL :: WL023
A: Footmassage (Foot Fucking Master Mix) This unabashedly named mix kicks off on a housey tip with heavy doses of percussion and eventually a laid back, deep and groovy bassline drops in. Extra oomph is provided by a nicely rounded kick. After some minutes are spent building things up, mainly extra layers in the percussive department, a short break comes about and there are a few changes. The break is backed solely by a long, sustained synth while we hear some footmassage-related snippets of a sample from Pulp Fiction, hence the name of the track. Its a good sample to use and fits in very well indeed. The track continues in a deep and progressive but techy fashion with some little breaks here and there. My only gripe about this mix is a small break section which focuses on the footmassage sample by simply lowering the volume of all of the other elements and adding a reverb effect - surely something a little more creative could've been employed? Still, the track maintains a strong sense of drive throughout and flows really well. You won't be able to help grooving to that bassline!
AA: Footmassage (E-Craig's Filthy Footmassage Mix) Again we see a percussive start but you instantly notice the echoed beat and overall darker feel to this mix. The main beat and thick bassline drop in soon and you'll know it! Its deep, dark, heavy and filthy dirty - E-Craig's influence can easily be heard right away. The ambient breaks which feature the full vocal sample each time are well put together so everything fits right in place. The best moments in this quality track are when the bass kicks back in after a vocal sample and you can hear the tom drum banging away relentlessly - wicked stuff. The track is really strong and driving, even more so than the first mix so it just pushes you onwards all the time and doesn't give up, plus the sample from Pulp Fiction is catchy, memorable and entertaining which puts this track firmly on the path to success!
Conclusion:
'Footmassage' is a cool, funky track with great drive and fantastic groovy bass, plus that great sample adds extra goodness. The E-Craig remix is my favourite - dark and dirty with stacks of grooving bass!
