JONDI & SPESH'S SF PARTY, QOÖL TO OPEN IN LOS ANGELES
On Wednesday, January 12, 2005, a new music tradition will begin in Los Angeles when
San Francisco’s Qoöl opens the doors at it’s new sister club, Qoöl LA. The purpose
of Qoöl LA will be the same as it has been at Qoöl San Francisco since Jondi & Spesh
founded the party almost 10 years ago - to create a time and place each week where
people can shine as themselves, and awesome music can rule the day. That time is, of
course, happy hour.
Qoöl LA will be held weekly at Monroe’s, a well established West Hollywood venue
just east of the Pacific Design Center. Monroe’s occupies the space formerly known
as J. Sloan’s (once L.A.’s oldest bar). Owner Peter Garland (who also owns Porta
Via) and designer Frederick Sutherland (Forty Deuce, Dominic’s) have created a
unique speakeasy with a kitschy, 1940’s-inspired interior, a thumping, custom-built
sound system, and two levels with plenty of room for lounging and people-watching
while the DJs do their thing. Monroe’s is the ideal venue to begin a new L.A. music
tradition such as Qoöl LA.
Qoöl LA resident DJs, Josh Abrams, Michael Scot, & Daniel Djang all have excellent
credentials in their own right. Josh is the resident DJ and bookings manager for the
now world class Pure parties at Club Sugar, and Daniel and Michael are the DJs and
promoters behind EPOCHSound, a collective that puts on events known for outstanding
music, uniqueness, and most importantly, their all-inclusive vibe.
Jondi & Spesh as well as the other Qoöl residents will be popping down to spin at
Qoöl LA on a semi regular basis. Like Qoöl in San Francisco, Qoöl LA will place a
heavy emphasis on local and upcoming DJ talent, juxtaposed with solid residents and
world famous drop-in DJs.
