The mighty trio known as Infusion are back with full force, with the first release on their own label! This is one great Christmas present
Infusion – Better World (Polaroid Recordings)
2004 has been one heck of a year for the Aussie Trio known as Infusion. They hit it big on the international stage, they got a major label in BMG to release their album called “Six Feet Above Yesterday” and they won an Aria (Aussie version of the Grammy) and they still are not done. There was not much left to do besides start their own record label, so that is what Infusion have done to finish off one heck of a year. Infusion have started their own label called Polaroid Recordings, which is run by 3beat and distributed by Amato but it is one heck of a start.
Infusion got their biggest claim to fame by doing one off singles for Adam Freeland’s Marine Parade label and they went from there, they were signed to Dave Seaman’s Audiotherapy label and then it took off, live gigs around the world, fame and everything else. Infusion is Jamie Stevens, Mauel Sharrad and Frank Xavier and they did release their album called “Six Feet Above Yesterday”, which got its first release in Canada of all places in early September then Australia, then the UK and in 2005, it will see a release in the USA.
This is the first release of Polaroid Recordings
Polar 001 – Side A - Infusion – Better World (Infusion Mix) Side B – Infusion – Better World (Josh Wink Interpretation)
Side A - Infusion Mix
Infusion’s mix of their own track starts off the first release on the new label. It is chunky breakbeat, with some rusty sounding sound effects in the background. The track is really driven by a dirty techy beat with is coupled well with the breaks. The vocal has been the subject of some controversy in recent months because some say it is directly aimed at the US led War in Iraq but Infusion say that the lyrics are open to debate and they don’t really say what they were meant to be for. The main line in the vocal ponders “Does Anything really happen?”. The track is more of a slow burner that moves up at times, it is slow driving as well. I think that this track is more progressive breaks than anything else but progressive deejays are loving it and I love it as well because it just contains this forward thinking view that few acts have these days. Infusion will eventually achieve extreme success in the future because of this, you have been warned.
Side B Josh Wink Interpretation
Infusion certainly are not stupid, they took on Adam Freeland because they helped him on his album in 2003 and he drove them insane. Well they bring in one of the more dancefloor friendly remixers around, in Josh Wink. Love him or hate him, Wink certainly has a unique ability to blend his remixes to more of what the artist is. This track starts housy but quickly adds a fierce and incredibly mean electro line with some heavy backing bassline. Wink then pushes forward some spacey sound effects to this already impressive array of instrumentations. I’ve been Wink’s harshest critic for years because of stuff that he did in the past concerning Dan Bell but this almost makes you forget that. Wink vocoders vocal here and you don’t get the clear vocal but it gives you a choice and the electro line drives the song. This is for the dancefloors, boys and girls, get ready to dance.
Conclusion:
Solid Initial release by the Aussie based trio, they certainly know what works and what does’nt and to bring in one of the bigger names in Josh Wink to remix a track, shows clearly that they have a clue what they are doing. I like the Wink version more than the Infusion mix but they both rock. Track it down!
