Almost 12 years later, the EM is still going strong, who's up in Jan 2005? how about a upstart trance dj named Obir, A jungle DJ legend and some crafty producers?
Yes, Radio 1's Essential Mix is still going strong these days. It is hard to believe that it started in 1993 and it is nearly 2005, 12 years later and it is still going on. Well as a service to the i:Vibes masses, we bring you an update every few weeks and here is the latest one.
This coming Saturday 19/12/04 sees the excellent house act from the USA known as Kings of Tomorrow getting a well deserved EM. Should be funky and dirty, just the type of music that i:Vibes.nu likes
The following week is Boxing Day and they replay the winner of the EM of 2004 after the voting of the top 10 is counted. We still think that James Zabiela will pull it out this year
2005 starts off to a really fine and dirty duo known as Soulwax, if you don't know, you should because their remixes are just mean. They have got massive deejay support of late from King Unique's hammering of their mix of Rocketride by Felix Da Housecat.
On the 9th of January, Radio 1 finally gives the legend from the UK known simply as Andy C, his massive respect and gives him 2 hours to show what he can do with the decks, which should be spectacular.
A week later, the EM gives another debut to the upstart deejay and good friend of i:Vibes, who you know as Jon O'Bir. Some will argue that he does'nt deserve it, some will argue yes, he does. Let the mix speak for itself but that being said, the writer wishes to hope that Radio 1 reads ivibes.nu and gives Hybrid their EM!.
On the 23nd of January, the EM welcomes the French Electro/House or whatever genre you wish to classify his work under and his name is David Guetta.
The upcoming Essential Mixes should be good for fans of all types of music, you may not like some genres but their should be something for everyone here. Reminder, Every Sunday Morning from 1-3AM GMT time on Radio 1, it happens and it is on the site for a week, in case you missed it.
