Vincent de Moor appears on the Yakuza imprint under his Flashbang moniker to deliver us some atmospheric and uplifting trance wonders. Check this one out...
Being picked up already by the likes of Judge Jules, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond and M.I.K.E. spells good things to come for Vincent de Moor's most recent production. He's delivered some special things in the past and this time looks set to continue that trend.
:: Flashbang - Energy Reflect / Seabird :: Yakuza :: YAK009
1) Energy Reflect The first track of the pair sports an initially highly percussive sound fuelled by a punchy beat which sets a good pace to keep up with. This track is melodic from the outset, with some tempting synthy strikes and a tight, bassy riff. A lot of the elements take on a precision laiden jittery approach, lacing everything with the energy you need for a track like this. The lead instrument in 'Energy Reflect' is a very strange sound - its like a blend of several different things. It possesses a synthy sound with a crisp and cutting edge with some harmonics thrown in to make a difference. It works! The hook it plays and the sound it makes easily fit the tracks title, which doesn't often happen. A very nice track with pace, energy and an interesting sound to entice you.
2) Seabird 'Seabird' is a different flavour of track. It adopts a slower pace, a warbly and oscillating bassline and a lot of twisted sfx warping away in the background. You get a more progressive feeling from the initial sections. Deeper feeling elements, consisting of some airy, distant synths are introduced and provide a smooth and gentle floaty feeling which means Mr. De Moor has achieved a song worthy of its title once again! Another thing to notice is the way the kick emphasises the bassline, not making the track 'harder', but adding enough extra power to drive things nicely. The main melodic side of the track can be heard in the long and laid back breakdowns where we hear swirling ambience and flowing piano melodies fuse together. Its here that 'Seabird' steps away from the more proggy sound and back into something more trancey, albeit gentle still. A smooth and atmospheric piece that captures you more and more each time you listen
Conclusion:
'Energy Reflect' and 'Seabird' are two great tracks from a great producer. Vincent de Moor has proven time and time again that he knows how to do it, and this is no exception!
