Next up is ASOT number 33 - two tracks from the Foreign Force project, 'Emotional breeze' and 'Ozone'...
:: Foreign Force - Emotional Breeze / Ozone :: A State Of Trance :: ASOT033
A: Emotional Breeze 'Emotional Breeze' is a laid back quite proggy piece of trance. The ambient intro and following slow paced beat make this known and beckon in some ambient synths and sfx to create the beginnings of a kind of hypnotic sounding journey. Again no innovation to be found by the time the breakdown comes around. This consists of more ambience with a nice sprinkling of piano notes and the first instances of a synth chord driven melody. This continues after the track drops back in and takes you on for the rest of the tracks calm and laid back journey. Although some listeners may find this boring, there are some nice sounds hidden within this track.
B: Ozone 'Ozone' takes on a tougher and more driving sound with quick beats, coarse sfx in the background and nicely contrasted soft synths and pads in the foreground. The chords used are played in a familiar style with a familiar sounding synth - you know, the kind of Chicane-esque Ibiza sunset type sound. The long breakdown is a blend of synths, silence, female "Aahs" with an electronic yet soothing quality - and some well constructed breakbeat patterns. The breakdown also features some rather odd sounding leads. Allsorts really! Its all topped off well with the good breakbeat section and it feels just right when the track kicks back in. 'Ozone' is heavily melodic and there are long and different melodies played throughout by a variety of instruments. Another one of those B-side gems in my opinion!
Conclusion:
'Emotional Breeze' might come across as a lack-lustre affair to a lot of people as its very laid back and fairly progressive sounding. 'Ozone' on the B-side however, is a strong track with good drive and it has wonderful melodies and patterns used throughout.
