A: Andromeda Heights (Original Mix)
This one isn’t especially fast paced but it whips into a lively state after the first few initial patterns. A punchy kick and perky bass make sure of this. We hear a fine blend of layers of thick, lovely sounding synths which create a great feeling as you’re built up towards the breakdown. This track is all about the main melody, so the breakdown is kept brief and serves its purpose to awaken the melody very well with good efficiency. The lead instrument itself bears a springy sound and isn’t incredibly unique but it is used to play a really great melody and that always makes all the difference. Another thing I love about this track is the piano that is sued to break up the melodic sections – pianos generally sound fantastic to me, so it really can’t go wrong here. Here we have an excellently produced piece of trance which in essence is a skilful combination of some very good individual elements, making a quality track which sounds pretty damn good.
Andromeda Heights (Peter Dafnous Remix)
Peter Dafnous’ interpretation of ‘Andromeda Heights’ takes on a rather deeper and moodier feel. The bass is livelier but is deeper and there is a fine layer of synth which lines the background of the track with a quiet sense of airy ambience. The melody itself isn’t as forthcoming as it was in the original and so takes the moodier, deeper path as has been laid out already. The melodies are broken up by sections headed by light chords tapped out by a perky synth, adding variety but not taking away from the overall melodic essence of the track.
Conclusion:
A very good release containing two highly commendable mixes. The original is more uplifing and showcases the sweet melody, while Peter Dafnous provides a slightly darker but no less energetic remix.
