JamX & De-Leon return on their own Fate label to bring us new material under their highly acclaimed DuMonde alias. The originals for this track were released just a while ago, and now we have the remix disc with interpretations by Alphazone and Alex Bartlett... Read on!
The guys from DuMonde have released loads and loads of very successful tracks, including their classics 'Never Look Back', 'Memory' and 'Tomorrow'. More recent tracks are 'Cold / Kalt', 'Human' and 'God Music', which were all received quite well by the ones who like some proper hardtrance. On the remix side, Dominik and Jürgen have made interpretations for a huge amount of artists, ranging from Rank 1, Jurgen Vries and Barthezz to Talla2XLC, Fragma, Marc Aurel and Push.
Last month saw the release of 'Ich Will Raus / Let Me Out' Disc 1, including the two originals with both German and English vocals, and a Dub Mix. Let's see what the remixes have to offer...
A-side: Let Me Out / Ich Will Raus (Alphazone vs. Ralph Novell Remix) (One quick sidenote: both sides of this vinyl come in an English and a German mix. They are identical, except for the vocals.) Of course we all know Alphazone from their high energy hardtrance productions like 'Stay', 'Revelation' and their new single 'Flashback'. Ralph Novell has released 'Wrong Love' on the Skywarp label last year, and is set to be one of the biggest upcoming hardtrance producers of the year... This remix commences with a typical Alphazone styled percussion. A thumping kick, fast hihats and a prelude to the main bassline build us up towards the introduction of the full bassline, which kicks in very nicely. Tiny vocal snippets are being repeated every once in a while, being backed by a spooky bell like sound and some dark spoken vocals, which certainly help in adding a cool atmosphere during the buildup. The agile synths that we heard in other Alphazone productions are here as well, being backed by some strings which play along quite nicely. The breakdown goes on in the same dark style as the build-up: some very cool dramatic sounding violins and tiny piano samples create the perfect vibe for the vocals to be spoken out loud. A single piano note takes us right into the main melody building itself up: at first, a simple set of chords is being played, but as time goes on, the notes go up and down to create a somewhat emotional structure. A bassy saw sound comes in, snares are starting to roll... you can just feel the storm coming. The climax is banging as hell! The melody from the breakdown has been put aside, and made place for some fast stabbing synths, like the ones we heard in 'Flashback'. The power in this is awesome! No need for Red Bull if you hear this one live, it'll give you a burst of energy instantly. When you think the climax is over and the build down starts, you're treated with a nice surprise: the melody is being built up again to bring you one last moment of dancing pleasure. When this is done, the builddown starts, after which the track comes to an end...
B-side: Let Me Out / Ich Will Raus (XB Remix) XB is basically Alex Bartlett, whom you might now from tunes like 'Amnesia' (with that massive Flutlicht vs. S.H.O.K.K. Remix!) and his more recent 'R.A.C.' A lonely bassdrum and some percussional elements I have definitely heard in another track before send us right into the main bassline, which on its turn reminds me a lot of the one used in Jurgen Vries - 'The Theme'. A bit of the percussion returns, and parts of the vocals from the original are being repeated every now and then. Until now, the track doesn't flow really well; the percs don't create a drive, and the bassline just doesn't do, well, anything. Two minutes on, something starts to happen. A bassy sound and a simple synth start to build up... Hey wait... I've heard this before as well! Almost the exact same elements and notes are being used in Cosmic Gate's 'Ultra Curve', a track which was released quite a while ago. Is this just coincidence, or did Alex run out of inspiration? Oh well, it might just be me, check it out for yourselves! Alright, the vocals are being repeated once more on top of the bassdrum, with behind this the chords that have been used in the main melody from the A-side mix. At all of a sudden, everything stops, to make place for an almost exact copy of the strings that DuMonde uses in most of their productions. After this, a quite simple melody comes in, with almost no tension being built up. The percs come in again, creating the part I would normally call climax. It's definitely danceable, but for me it just doesn't work: there's no drive in the track, and a lot of the elements have been copied from other tracks, with the worst one being the reminiscence with CG's Ultra Curve. Quite disappointing, really.
Conclusion:
The Alphazone Vs. Ralph Novell remix is just out of this world. A superb atmosphere is being built up, and the climax is just insane stuff. On the other hand, the XB remix is not that good: it doesn't flow, and sounds like it's been made in a very short time. All in all a 9 for the A-side mix, and a 6 for the other one... Resulting in an overall 8.
