An ode to one of the best TV series around has been made. This ones been floating around for a while now, but the time is right for it to rear its head...
If you don't know what 24 is then where have you been for the last 3 years? The incredibly popular series is set to return in 3 days time on U.S. screens (grrr) and the shows producers asked none other than Armin van Buuren to whip up a track to mark its return.
And thats what Armin did.
Under the guise of just '24', the track, 'The Longest Day', features sounds and melodies from the series all mixed up into top trance form.
:: 24 - The Longest Day :: 24LONG :: White Label
A: The Longest Day (Original Mix) The track starts with the familiar tension filled backing music of 24 plus a stringed melodic snippet laid over the top. The most notable vocal sample from the first series is used (and is also where the track gets its name) and the unmistakable 24 'tick, tock, tick, tock' sample is used to great effect. Once this intro is over, the track takes on a solid form - punchy kicks and a deep, rolling bassline fuel things perfectly. Ambient synths line the background while small 24 melodies are played by spooky synths in the foreground. The breakdown in the middle of the track features more 24 based action and when it eventually drops back in we are graced with the wonderful melodies again. Great stuff - a fantastic effort by van Buuren who has hit the spot with this one and got it just right. I can only hope to hear it somewhere in the 4th series!
B: The Longest Day (Instrumental) On the flip there is an instrumental mix which is the same other than that the vocal/ambient section is missing from the beginning and the vocal samples have been removed from the breakdown.
Conclusion:
A fantastic track! Great for those who love trance, great for those who love 24, simply awesome for people who love both (ie. me)!! Even if the series didn't exist and this track did, it'd still be ace!
