One of the more recent Anjuna releases shows the return of trance project Kyau Vs. Albert. Two new track appear on this one - 'Made Of Sun' and Falling Anywhere'...
:: Kyau Vs. Albert - Made Of Sun / Falling Anywhere :: Anjunabeats :: ANJ044
A: Made Of Sun (KvA Hard Dub) The 'hard' dub of 'Made Of Sun' really appeals to me at the start. A big booming bass and kick thump along with a raw twanging bass instrument. Hard and dirty stuff. This is ultra contrasted suddenly with an ambient break laced with echoes of male vocals which, when the track drops back in with the heavy bass and kick, sit on a sustained repeating loop to create a droning sound. I didn't really like that sound. It soon leaves your ears though, and the track continues in a tough but still trancey fashion. The main synth is introduced slowly - its another sustained, looping instrument which drones on and on but is by no means as nasty as the vocal loop. The main vocal section of this track is backed up by a fairly meaty and hybrid-esque breakbeat section. The droning synths and tough bass kick back in for the last main section before we hear an outro of the powerful bass and kick that the track started with. Hmmm.
B1: Falling Anywhere (Rework) Ok lets flip this one over. Ah yes, K & A have found their trance shoes again as this is much nicer sounding piece. The main body of the track is an arpeggiated bass instrument backed by strong bassy pulses and of course some basic percussion. This track is highly melodic - smooth pads and gentle lead synths are the order of the day and they do very well at immersing you in a lovely, trancey sound. The lead synth has an interesting sound - fairly chorused and definitely a step away from 'the norm'. As the track progresses, among the dreamy melodies you can hear some nice vocals being sung in the background. A very nice touch to a very nice track.
B2: Made Of Sun (Album Version) The Album Version of 'Made Of Sun' is a vocal breakbeat affair which seems to have been thrown in for good measure, although its always nice to have extra options and variety just in case the occasion calls for it.
Conclusion:
Hmmm. The 'hard' dub while not really that hard but more tough holds mixed feelings for me. Its nice - especially the start and finish, but some of those droning elements just sound a bit too harsh. The rework of 'Falling Anywhere' however is excellent and really nice to listen to. A 7 - scraped and only just though.
