Its release is finally upon us, 'Fancy Fair 05' has landed! This track should need no introduction so read on to check out Katana's new 2005 edit and E-Craig's 2005 remix!!
:: Randy Katana - Fancy Fair 05 :: Reset Records :: RS009
A: Fancy Fair 05 (Fancy Edit) Katana's re-edit of this monster classic tune has a massive progression to it. It starts with a simple beat and some easy percussion which soon brings on one of the most lengthy snare rolls I've ever heard which drops into another build up - this time based on the ambience behind Fancy Fair with the use of some soft off beat hits. Some coarse synths chip away in the background as the track rolls along, with some very quiet synths working their way into the sound and an increasing build up in strength of the beat and percussion. The track continues on this building path until it hits the main breakdown which is huuuge. The beat is lost and coarse, droning backing synths build and build to a peak until the oh-so familiar 'siren' of Fancy Fair is let off and the track is unleashed, dropping full on into the main hook. I have no doubt that dancefloors will erupt at this point, and will continue to do so until the track fades and is mixed out. If you loved the original, you should love this. Massive tune!
B1: Fancy Fair 05 (E-Craig Remix) E-Craig's interpretation of the new edition of 'Fancy Fair' starts with a quiet percussive run with some female vocals thrown in too. Some sinister sounds and a dirty bassy growl introduce the main bassline - a downright dirty gurgling and bubbling bassline which gives things a much darker feel. Add to this some techno style hi-hats and you have a real edgy atmosphere created already! A breakdown is used to bring in the main hook of 'Fancy Fair' which also benefits from a touch of reverb which makes it sound 'larger' and also helps to keep that touch of darkness to the track, as well as adding a live feeling to the overall sound. This is a tougher, darker and more persistent version - well done E-Craig, a great remix that really adds to the greatness of 'Fancy Fair'.
B2: Fair Fair (Original Mix) On the B2 side of the vinyl, we're also treated to the Original Mix of 'Fancy Fair', where it all began all those years ago. Tough, driving and simple, boasting a big build up and that full flavoured main hook, you just can't go wrong. A true classic. The vinyl is worth it for this track alone!
Conclusion:
'Fancy Fair'. What more can you say? Its a classic, Katana has added some extra flavour to it for 2005, as has E-Craig and its as great as ever. Again I say - massive tune!
