Listen to the West Coast Madman himself talk about his fave ten tracks and only describe them as he can
SPESH'S TOP TRACKS - JANUARY 2005
* Please note: There has been an exciting change in the format of this already exciting chart. Less tracks are listed, but each one now comes with helpful and informative commentary by Spesh himself. Enjoy, and please continue to send Spesh lots of music. Thank you.
1. Niki B & Christian E.F.F.E. feat. Mette Marie Kongsved / Eyes (Dub Mix) / Swift Big room deepness that somehow pulls off being dark and sinister with uplifting results. How did they do that? And what does E.F.F.E stand for?
2. RND () / Burn (Original and Momu Mixes) / Loöq Records It’s a gorgeous, proggy (but not too proggy), wall of sound, and it has a Momu remix on the flip. You'll love it too.
3. De Hugo & De Rivera / Electribe Buzz (Roman Lieske Remix) / Solar I can’t pronounce “Lieske”, but that hasn't stopped me from playing his remix in just about every set. That is, after Jondi & I chopped 16 bars of really boring breakdown out of the track in our “Re-Edit Lab”. We rock and now this track does too.
4. B.I.G. / A Promise (Dousk Mix) / Klik A wide-open groove with waves of sound that makes everyone in the room smile and move. The folks that made this record definitely know what dance music is about.
5. Heads feat. Azeem / Wait For You (Dub Mix) / Stereo Cool What you have here is a big main room groover with an even bigger spanish influence. In the words of Paris Hilton, this record is "hot".
6. SX-01 / Pump Up The Mix (Gene Carbonell’s Not So Dubby Mix) This one is loopy, full of energy and has a bassline that will knock you out of your expensive designer jeans. As featured on our recently aired guest mix for Digweed's Kiss FM show.
7. Buck & Morane / Dura Mata / Slope Records Bouncy and growl-y peak time fun. The version I am playing has also spent time in the Jondi & Spesh “Re-Edit Lab” undergoing boring breakdown removal.
8. DJ Leo / 2gether (Original Mix) / Sog Liquid This is a quality slice of non-boring deepness. With it's breakdown all but removed (yes, the Re-Edit lab strikes again), it is ready for long set groove building action.
9. Alexander East / Hope U See / Amfibius This is the kind of house music I like – plenty of groove and soul, with a touch of atmospheric float. And what’s this? It’s from San Francisco? Imagine that.
10. Kosmas Epsilon / Snorkel / Deep This was on last months chart as well, but I’m still playing it. It’s got a unique kind of scaled down epicness that I call perfect. By the way, Deep records is kicking out one belter after another lately. Kind of reminds me of Hooj in it’s heyday. Nice one Peter V.H. (who, by the way, hasn’t returned any of my email lately. hmmm. he must be really busy with his label).
