The latest Dedicated has a tough job lined up if it wants to top Dedicated's last absolutely stomping release. The next contender is a 2 track vinyl from Silent Electra...
The Silent Electra project is backed by Jochen Miller - resident DJ at The Matrixx club in Holland - and the guys from Creamteam (Viktor & Tom DJ). Here, we are presented with Jochen's own remix of 'For This Moment' and the original of 'Headliner'. DJ support so far is vast and is coming from the likes of Guy Ornadel, Cor Fijneman, John Gielen, Kyau Vs. Albert, Matt Hardwick, John Askew, DJ Danjo & Rob Styles, Above & Beyond, M.I.K.E., Pulser, Adam Sheridan, Marcel Woods, Blank & Jones, Paul Kershaw and Jon O'Bir - a huge range of big names! All very promising, lets get to the tracks!
:: Silent Electra - For This Moment / Headliner :: Dedicated :: DED012
A: For This Moment (Jochen Miller Remix) This track is fronted by a punchy kick and some scratchy and coarse percussion. Things are taken fairly steadily at first with just a few pulses of bass to add some initial intrigue. But before you know it the track erupts and blasts out a fiercely deep and groovy bassline. Its at this point (already!) that you know the track is going to deliver - the deep bass and gentle Filterheadz style chords in the background are totally infectious and ooze quality. Up until the main breakdown, the track mainly grows in the bass areas, making it more and more immense and hence making more of a contrast for the breakdown. Here, the bass subsides and a lead synth builds up and eventually takes to the skies in a beautiful, melodic little sequence which is simply excellent. Even though the lead itself is quite piercing, it is laid on a bed of soft pads and the resulting sea of melody is sublime. This track isn't afraid to progress and continue evolving as a new, very coarse synth takes the lead and stabs out a melody once the thick bass takes control of the track once more. There is one last short melodic section to prepare for the final main section at full power. This is a quality track, make no mistake about that!
B: Headliner 'Headliner' is a different style of track. Its almost like the middle point between progressive and melodic trance. It demonstrates a slow and simple start with sustained backing synths and a bubbly bassline. A repeating synth hook begins to evolve into a melody over the course of many bars and onwards into the long breakdown. Yes, its a very long breakdown. Its synths all the way though and here we see and hear the hook transforming into melody quite beautifully, backed by some nice bassy chord changes. The melody itself seems to carry some heartfelt emotion which makes the track feel so much better. Once things kick back in, the melody goes back to its roots of long sustained synthy notes, not rushing things along at all. Then, a lot of time is spent slowly easing the track towards its end.
Conclusion:
Another top notch vinyl here from Dedicated - 'Headliner' is a nice crossover track between melodic and progressive trance but the star of the show here is Jochen Miller's remix of 'For This Moment' - its an absolutely storming track and one that simply cannot be missed!
