Jump, a sublabel of Difuse and a sisterlabel of Bang, returns to bring us a new track by Steve Morley. If you like your trance a bit harder, then don't forget to read this review...

Steve Morley is one of the many aliases that Mustepha Alici uses when producing. Having over 20 guises, Mustepha produces a wide variety of music, varying from (hard)trance to hardcore. One of his biggest hits until today is 'Reincarnations', which was originally released back in 1998. In 1999, new remixes followed, with among these being an interpretation by JamX & De-Leon which became a true club smasher.

A-side: Solar Scape Remix
Alf Bamford is the one who runs the Solar Scape guise. Having remixes artists like Talla 2XLC, JS Ten and JK Walker & Marcos, this moniker has definitely been delivering during the past few months.
The intro sounds of this track are quite chilled, with calm waves floating through the sound spectrum and a few hyping synths playing on and on at the background. A fierce kick, some tight percussion and a stomach shizzling bassline take us onwards, creating an agile drive throughout the build. Some powerful synths energize this even more, playing fast-changing melodies with a few quite cool changes in chords. With the bassline starting to play along with the rhythms, you just know the breakdown will be entering soon... and so it does. Snarerolls are taking over the other elements, just until you hear a few subtle bird-like sounds come in, topped by a rather simple, but still very effective strings melody. At all of a sudden, the strings quit their job to make place for a filtered little melody, which evolves into a superbly powerful monstersynth that would rip apart any club when played. 'Riff' is the right word here, because the melody itself has this special thing which just energizes it to the maximum level. A lil' bit of emotion is in there as well, which definitely helps in creating an utterly banging climax. This one's hot, you better not burn your fingers...

B-side: Original Mix
A rather oldschool-hardtrance sounding bassline, booming percussion and some subtle background samples are the key ingredients for the build of this track. More spice is being added by throwing in a few phat strings and some more repeating samples, after which the main breakdown suddenly comes in at about two minutes. The same strings as in the A-side mix are being played here, but they are not being accompanied by a blazing melody this time, unfortunately. The overall feel of this original mix is a lot less energetic than the Solar Scape mix, but it would work out nicely at the beginning of a somewhat harder set, I think. The main melody is being played on top of the other parts of the track during the climaxes, which creates a somewhat chilled vibe. Quite OK, but I think it could've used a bit more tricks and a somewhat more original approach, because it sounds quite standard here and there.

Conclusion:
The Solar Scape remix is what you should get this vinyl for. Energetic builds, a cool breakdown and a bulldozer-melody that just tears apart anything in its way make this a track that stands out. The original is OK, but lacks a bit of the more advanced production techniques that are being used nowadays, it just sounds a bit too 'old' for my taste. All in all a nice release on the Jump label, let's hope they can keep it up!
