The UK's newest trance label, Connected Music, has launched and its first set of samplers are available. Read on to check out tracks by the awesome Factoria and a new project from Filo & Peri...!
Theres a lot of promising stuff that I can see coming from Connected in the future. Aside from Factoria's and Filo & Peri's new tracks, we can expect to see top tunes from Aerodrome and Mike Perry and also remix work from the Finnish trancemeister Miika Kuisma plus from Fractal Structure and Will Holland!
:: Connected Music Sampler Vol. 01 :: Factoria - Twisting Free / Filo & Peri Pres. Taxi - Distance :: Connected Music
1) Factoria - Twisting Free (Original Mix) I've been looking forward to more Factoria work since I came across the masterpiece that is 'No Escape 2004'. 'Twisting Free' takes a much trancier approach this time and this is evident from the outset - easy going and free flowing rolling bass with a percussive sprinkle are used to set things off but the strong kick does very well at keeping hold of a sense of power, avoiding too much fluffiness. You quickly notice the use of twisted stabs of sfx in the background which keeps things fresh and interesting - plus you know Factoria will always have some more tricks up his sleeve! As we delve further into the tracks, a sweet layer of pads lines the background adding smoothness and really helping to create an uplifting atmosphere. This feeling is continuously built upon as a lead synth gently rises up and plays a short but immensely trancey hook over and over. The breakdown is where things really take shape though. The ambience is broken by a calm, smooth and utmostly beautiful female vocal. No words, just a voice singing out some wonderful notes. Its very well performed and fits in perfectly with the synth so they work together in total harmony. As the track drops back in, we hear some words - "Twisting Free" - and are graced with the tune in its fullest form - all the wonderful pads, the synth hook and those sublime vocals. Its an awesome, wonderfully produced piece of work, shivers down your spine and hairs on end all the way.
2) Filo & Peri Pres. Taxi - Distance (Original Mix) This prog-trance based duo have made quite a name for themselves. They already have 6 tracks spread over 3 releases on the A State Of Trance Label and are dominating the progressive trance scene at the moment. 'Distance' has plenty of the pair's proggy sound infused into it, but it also has a softer, trancier vein running through it as opposed to some of their previous work which although was quite proggy, had a kind of solid feeling to it. This latest track offers a thick rhythmic bassline with swirls of long smooth synth pads in the background - hence the hint of trance here. Lots of ambient sounds come and go and echoed vocals float above the other sounds. There are small alternative sections which are led by some heavy bass with an almost tribal sound and feel to it. These bits lead onto a further development of the track - most of the backing elements remain but there is a crisp lead instrument playing a long and easy going melody. Coupled with some snare rolls to add some small build ups and releases, it all works together very nicely indeed. This should go down very well with prog fans but it'd also fit in well during the start of many a trance set.
Conclusion:
Connected have literally launched themselves off with a flying start here. Factoria's 'Twisting Free' is quite frankly a superior piece of trance and Filo & Peri show their versatility once more with the proggy, flowing smoothness that is 'Distance'. Definitely ones to grab, and definitely a label to keep your eyes and ears on!
