The Latest with Barry Gilbey

Barry Gilbey is a deejay/artist/remixer and he is best known as half of Mara with his wife Sara Whittaker-Gilbey. He also runs Choo Choo Recordings with his wife and here is the first update for Mr.Gilbey in 2005.

The fate of Mara

Mara is on hold for now but it still means a lot to Barry and Sara but they are busy doing other things. So it's not officially dead as earlier reported, it is just in hibernation mode and ready to be unleashed on the world at some point in the future.

Remixes

Minimal Records

Gilbey has just finished a mix that he terms “Spankin!” for Minimal Records, the vinyl will be called “Red and Blue” and the title will be called “Driller”. The original is said to be a tough no nonsense progressive tune and Gilbey’s remix is said to have added a tough tech house with some nasty electro bizness.

Swedish Label

He will start the remix for Kruger and Coyle on the Swedish Label called AC/DC in the next few days. Gilbey is said to be happy with being asked to work on it because he is really digging their new album.

Producing A Rock Band

Barry Gilbey will start to produce for an English Band called “KiK!” that blends electro pop and rock music together. It should be interesting when you add the Sheffield Nutter with a bunch of rockers.

Collab with one third of Lexicon Avenue

As if Gilbey did not have enough to do, he is starting another project, this time with Chris Scott and the results should be released in a few months. Also he has done a single with Lexicon Avenue (Chris Scott and Scott Bradford and Mark Armstrong) and he is working on the B Side as we speak

Drunken Stories

Gilbey was recently in Russia and ended up staying a week because of a freak snowstorm, he was only supposed to be there two days. So he decided it would be rude to not enjoy himself and he nearly killed himself (yes that’s right, no joke!) from cheap vodka. Gilbey has added to his legendary antics and that’s the 3rd time that he has nearly died from alcohol consumption, here is a toast to the nutter!.

Russia apart from Drinking

Barry has a bi-monthly residency at what he terms Moscow’s best club, which he says is Apriori. He played their 3rd birthday party and it was on the same day as Gilbey’s birthday, so that’s probably how he started the alcohol consumption that nearly killed him.

WMC

Sadly Barry and wife will not be at WMC this year, they are instead to another warm place, which is Mexico to play the Love Parade!. 500,000 clubbers, EDM and tequila, what a combo, let’s hope that poor Gilbey does not nearly kill himself for the 4th time in his crazy life!.
