The 2High Squad is one of the newest signings on JamX & De-Leon’s Access Tunes label. Consisting of several artists, this squad brings us an EP containing 4 different tunes… Click in for the full review!

Jürgen Mutschall and Dominik de Leon (DuMonde) are the owners of Access Tunes, which is a sister of the ever-consistent F8T label. After releasing tunes like Alias – ‘Evil’ and Lodge 68 – ‘Monument’, we are now being treated by a brand new 4-track EP. I don't know much about the producers, except for the fact that they work closely together with Igor S and Ricky Fobis.
One side-note: it seems like some of the artists have not been printed correctly on the vinyl label. For example, ‘Badini Experience’ should be ‘Bardini Experience’ and ‘Albert Evil’ should be ‘Albert Evel’.

A1 – Badini Experience vs. Chris P. – ‘The Movie’
‘The Movie’ certainly knows how to catch my attention right at the beginning! Tiny bits of percussion are being guided along by this unique sounding, rather bassy sound, twisting, jamming and building itself up to the highest regions during the build-up. More and more techno-ish percussion gets added, just until a mini-break comes in… Eh-oh, I feel some energy emerging! The bassy sounds are now driving the track onwards even more by energizing themselves with a darker sound. The overall darkish, yet amazingly driving atmosphere throughout the build is insane; standing still on this is impossible! But the best part is yet to come… The breakdown firstly consists of a repeating new melody, playing an agile, still subtle rhythm. You’d think this would be it, but it surely isn’t! At all of the sudden, an unbelievable amount of power is being injected in it, resulting in one of the most energetic builds I have ever heard! With chords changing, the melody becomes a fully kicking experience, building, building and building just until it reaches the level where it just can’t go any further! Combined with the percussion, this makes a fantastic climax which will surely cause severe devastation throughout the world’s better dancefloors. If you like a blend of hardtrance and tech-trance, you just can’t leave this one on the shelves. One of the better tracks I’ve heard this year!

A2 – Albert Evil – ‘Groove On’
Allright, after having heard the amazing A1, let’s see what this one will bring us… Techy hats and a nice bassdrum guide us onwards, with some background FX making their way into the track as well. Suddenly, a very odd, yet kind of entertaining ‘melody’ comes in. This instantly made me think of them computer-game melodies from the nineties, mainly because of the strange, oldschool sound being used. Going on and on, you can hear this track is a mix of styles; there’s some techno, some tech-trance, and even a more trancy breakdown. Mysterious strings are there as well, playing this odd mixture of chords throughout most of the break. Soon, we hear the computergame-synth coming in again with some added force, inducing the percussion to start blasting again. All in all an original track, but I’m not sure if this would attract many people because of its odd melodies and mysterious vibe.

B1 – Bomben vs. Evil – ‘So Real (Davide Bomben Mix)’
Driving, hardtrancy percussion is what is served on our plates during the first parts of the track. A very intrigueing bassline soon starts pulsating throughout the kickdrums, being one of these bassline that make you recognize a track immediately when hearing it. Whilst the basses are starting to change chords, small pieces of melody start to emerge on the background. A darkish synth plays just one tone now, but soon starts to blast out some more chords. The build-up doesn’t contain that many elements, but certainly knows how to keep the listener happy; it has this certain vibe over it which will definitely make your feet rise when on a dancefloor. The breakdown consists of a few simple strings at first sight, playing a repetitive set of tones throughout the spectrum. Soon, we hear the bassline coming in again, raising tension to the highest level! During the climax, you can hear this track is just built around the bassline; small pieces of synth are hearable, but the basses are the main ingredients here. With its constantly altering sound, it starts to become even more addictive. The melody stabs from the build are returning again as well, this time accompanied by a sister-synth which plays a simple, yet effective rhythm at the end of every 32 beats. All in all a good track, well done!

B2 – D-Project – ‘Frisbee’
‘Frisbee’ immediately made me think of tracks by Igor S. when listening to the build-up. The title might also be a hint to his track ‘Boomerang’. A frisbee is a thing which you throw in the air as well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this track was (co-)produced by Igor himself! At first sight, a rather techy percussion bangs through the speakers. Slicing hi-hats, filtered kickdrums and an ever-building synth-rhythm emerge, with the last one evolving into a full melody at the time when the main percs kick in. The melody-thing is rather hard to describe; it has this enormous amount of drive in it, but still retains a grade of simplicity somehow. When elements start to fade away, you just know a breakdown will follow. A somewhat happy melody comes in, soon to be accompanied by pieces of the synthparts from the build-up. With filters being loosened, this soon grows to a huge array of power, blasting everything into pieces! The amazingly driving melody just works out very well combined with the other elements, resulting in an utterly banging track. Coolio!

Conclusion:
Let's cut right to the chase: this is an amazing EP. 'The Movie' is a true mayhem hardtrancer, 'Groove On' is odd but quite cool, 'So Real' does its thing in a very nice way as well, and 'Frisbee' will work very well on the dancefloors I think. A damn fine release on Access Tunes, let's see what they will bring us in the future!
