Another big release is on its way from Reset Records. This latest one is another by Oliver Prime who already has one big Reset release under his belt. Now he's back for more with his new track, 'Mind Games'...
Oliver Prime already took Reset Records by storm with his previous production, 'Radiance', which demonstrated his dark and mysterious styles. Now 'Mind Games' is here, we know Mr. Prime is here to stay...
:: Oliver Prime - Mind Games :: Reset Records :: RS010
A: Mind Games (Original Mix) Right from the start you can tell this track possesses Oliver Prime's distinct sound and style. Deep and ominous rolling bass provides the backing for some growling sfx and synth hits. This is built upon by adding some chattering percussion and some sweeping string pads which play deep notes which rise and fall adding great atmosphere and increasing the dark and mysterious overall feel. There is also a synth which plays jittering notes to complement the bassline and also a multitude of different small synths and sfx which are continuously active in the background. Overall this piece is a steadily paced journey driven strongly by the deep bass and haunting strings and synths. Fresh, wicked stuff!
AA: Mind Games (Danjo & Styles Remix) Danjo & Styles have taken this track and worked well with the style Oliver Prime has already laid out. The remix begins with some chilling pads which lead to some simple percussion and a beat. This is a precursor to some simply awesome bass. Its big, thick and deep and it dominates and encapsulates the track in a wonderful way. Along with the percussion the track is given a slightly tribal feel to go with its dark mysteriousness. We hear synths in the background which play more long and chilling notes, especially during the spooky and eerie sounding breakdown. After this, a new element is introduced. A crisp and tinny lead instrument stabs out its notes in a rhythmic pattern, adding a touch of toughness to the track. What really makes this track for me is the offbeat stabs of synth, which have a very orchestral string sound to them. They add a melodic and epic feel to the track but still possess a dark and ominous sound. That said, one element alone can't take the credit for this track, as there is so much that has been merged together here to make yet another splendid piece.
Conclusion:
More awesome stuff from Oliver Prime. He's stuck to his dark and moody sound which is fantastic and the result is a second quality production on Reset Records. Danjo & Styles have also put in some good work and have produced a brilliant remix, adding extra flavours to the original whilst keeping to its original sound.
