© www.greengalactic.com/images/soma/tsomalogo.jpgThe Scottish superlabel known as Soma, is set to release two albums, one from Silicone Soul and Alex Smoke.

Silicone Soul celebrate their new album 'Staring Into Space' on Soma Recordings with an exclusive US performance at Cielo (18 Little West 12th Street) during NYC's Tartan Week. Joining them on the decks is fellow Scotsman Alex Smoke, on the heels of his potent debut album 'Incommunicado' and NYC's own Three & Peter Wohelski. This party is a part of TARTAN WEEK(April 4th -9th), a yearly Scottish cultural program sponsored by the Scottish Executive.

The Silicone Soul duo, Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie bring their unique deep groove and trademark liquid house, tight beats in abundance, fused with a marvelous musicality and substance. Meanwhile, Glaswegian newcomer Alex Smoke stokes the dancefloors by blurring the boundaries between minimal, techno and electronica with an infusion of soul. Join us for a genuinely remarkable night with Scotland's dance music's brightest stars.

Silicone Soul: Five years ago their debut album 'A Soul Thing' was lauded by critics and established Silicone Soul as one of Soma's most prominent and popular acts. Shortly thereafter, Silicone Soul entered the UK Top 20 with their stunning homage to Curtis Mayfield, 'Right On!' Since then they have been working non-stop, from DJing around the world to building up their Darkroom Dubs imprint, remixing and putting together a new studio to develop the Silicone Soul sound. "We're influenced by a lot of different styles of music" says Craig, "From that Jamaican Dance Hall vibe of the '70's, people
like Lee Perry, Gregory Isaacs, King Tubby and Augustus Pablo to funk, soul and disco, people like Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, The Temptations and Sly & The Family Stone right through to the Wild Pitch sound, DJ Pierre, Felix Da Housecat, the classic Chicago sound, Basic Channel.I could go on forever."

Now with 'Staring Into Space' they have taken their music to a new dimension with stellar composition of deep and emotive music. They have also incorporated live instrumentation and vocals, with outstanding performances from Chippy (Guitar), Tom MacNiven (Trumpet) and Brian Molley (Sax) and vocals from Soma labelmate Hope Grant aka Envoy and Stuart Gray of VivaStereo, one of Glasgow's hippest guitar bands.

Alex Smoke: Young Glaswegian producer Alex Smoke's debut 'Incommunicado' has
finely honed his own unique sound. The album respectfully nods to DSP pioneers like Matthew Dear, Villalobos, Luciano and Lawrence, who he regards as very influential. On the album, he says "It's a combination of influences really; the notion that somehow, even with all the advances in the world and the pace of technology, we're becoming worse at communicating with each other, more selfish and less in touch with the world as a whole. The other reason is more personal, and just relates to me being quite distant
sometimes, and wanting to live on a hill in a shed or something!" This theme ripples throughout the album - and there is a real edge of introspection and emotion, shimmering machine music with a soul. This is an accomplished debut from a talent who is going to shine in 2005.
