Sander van Doorn is back to continue his dominance of Oxygen records. Already behind 3 of the 4 currently available Oxygen tunes, all of which are fantastic, where is Sander going to take his unique sound this time...?
:: Sander Van Doorn - Bling Bling :: Oxygen Recordings :: OXY005
A: Bling Bling (Original) The original mix of 'Bling Bling' is ever so slightly different from what we're used to hearing from Sander. This first mix leans heavily towards a techno sound. An unrelenting bassline and deep, heavy kicks pound continuous through the track. Some of Sanders touches still shine through though - this is evident in the use of all the twisted and varied sfx throughout the track. Periodically, there is a vocal sample used. It is spoken, which adds a kind of moody and cool feeling to the track. The rest of it is headed and backed by a strange sounding instrument which plugs away in steady pulses in a monotone fashion, adding to the proggy techno kind of sound. I think the best bits are when the track breaks and drops back in - the sudden influx of heavy bass will always get you grooving. This side of the record will, most probably, mainly appeal to techno oriented people. However, for the rest of you, read on, as we approach the flip-side of this record...
AA: Bling Bling (S.V.D. Remix) Ah yes, an S.V.D. Remix. This is what we're all waiting for! Within the first minute of this track, after the beaty intro section, we know Sander van Doorn has done it again! A building swirling mass of sfx pulls in some monstrously thick bass which carries you effortlessly onwards. Coupled with a cool extra bit of bass which gurgles away on the 3rd and 4th beats of each bar, you have an instantly immense sound! In true SvD style, things just continue to grow - more sfx, more short breaks filled with repeating loops before a big drop (awesome!) and extra synthy instruments being introduced. The 'lead' here is a funky sounding synth which pushes out twisted bursts of sound in a rhythmic manner to complement the beat perfectly. The best bit of this tune is just as the tune drops back in after the second and final breakdown. You're subjected to a huge buildup which culminates in a long section of continuously looping sfx and then the whole lot just plunges down and engulfs you stronger than ever - seriously superb!
Conclusion:
While the Original will attract a smaller audience, Sander van Doorn has done it again, as he has done time and time over with the SvD remix. Its just monstrous and everything is done just right. He has tweaked his trademark sound for this one, but has still pulled it off flawlessly!!
