TRR returns with release number six by Kyamoto, which received some ASOT support.
Kyamoto – Frosted (TRR)
TRR has been doing very well of late, with Bagguley still touring and Genix starting to do more and more remixes, plus he set a record for the longest DJ set ever, which was one heck of an achievement. So now TRR is at release number six, which for most labels is great because most new labels don’t even make it to a sixth release.
Kyamoto is made up of Mark Versluis and Henrik Christensen, who got some ASOT airplay with their work of late. Mark Versluis is also the man who put together A Trip In Trance 3’s compilation together, before Plastic Angel mixed it. Anyway, they have achieved a great deal of success with Kyamoto and now for TRR release number six, they bring you Frosted, with them also on remix duties as Foreign Force.
A1 – Original Mix B1 – Foreign Force Remix
A1 – Original Mix
It starts with a solid bassline, with some sound effects around it, nothing spectacular but you gain the sense that the track will eventually take off and you will be struggling to keep up with it. About a minute into the track, it starts to immediately take shape, the bassline is now at the front, the track has immediately been thrown into 3rd gear. The sound effects tend to add to this track, they seem to fit right in. The melody appears here and it has a hook that tries to catch you but does’nt quite do it. The riff breaks in and I think it is the best part of this track occurs, the track slows down for the breakdown and then boom, the riffs hit you hard. It is not a complete dancefloor destroyer but it works so well, nothing wrong with a quality trance track. The melody and the riffs just take over the song and now it is in 5th gear and it just pushes the track till the end. A quality Side A for release 6 for TRR.
B1 – Foreign Force Remix
The remix starts a little faster, almost the exact same start, except it starts to go a little quicker, the sound effects are a little different, because Kyamoto use a little more sfx’s to add some variety. The melody kicks in a bit sooner but there is something that does not quite gel with me about this remix. Here, they are relying more on the melody to drive it, where as the original mix allowed the riffs to just drive it. The remix tends to drag on too much and the melody just starts to get tired and I don’t see this remix going anywhere, the breakdown then uses much more melody, then the riffs come in but they lack so much power. This is not a great side B but Side A makes up for any lack of interest that one might have.
Conclusion:
Side A is solid but Side B seems lost in a blackhole. The original mix is certainly one worth checking out but Side B seems to just have the energy taken out of it. It is not an exceptional release but it is certainly a good release and Side A is worth checking out.
