Belgian trance-producer Fred Baker returns with two brand new tracks, this time made in conjunction with Nyram. Already being hammered by Tiësto for ages, let's see what these are like!
Seems like mr. Baker is on a roll lately, both with individual productions and collaborations. The new Active Sight called 'Adrenalin' (made together with M.I.K.E.) has just been released on Captivating Sounds, and Fred's co-production with the Keyboard Kids called 'All Of Us' is about to be released on the new Beat This Records label. His most recent 'La Part Des Anges' has been made together with Vincent Groczak, and will see the light of day on Armada within a few months. Of course he also produces alone every now and then, resulting in the techy track 'Total Blackout' and remixes for artists like Tiësto, Alex M.O.R.P.H. and Liquid Overdose. Nyram is actually the turned around version of the producer's actual first name, Marijn. With Venmans being his last name, this Belgian producer is mostly known for making tracks together with DJ Coone. It seems like we can expect a great deal of trance productions from him in the future, so let's not forget to keep an eye on him..
Enough bio's, on to the tracks!
A-side: Confirmation
This one was already featured on the Tiësto In Concert 2 DVD after being played by Tijs himself for what seems like ages. During the build-up, a very thin, almost retro-sounding atmosphere is being brought forward. A simple, yet driving kick and a repeating set of basses are the key elements, being backed by some standard hats and a woodblock sounding effect. The overall feel is very subtle and even a bit emotional at this early point in the track. Small hints of strings are playing, guided along by a simple synth which is creating an up and down going rhythm. More and more strength is being injected inside the track's body by the addition of an energetic, very cool sounding synth, ready to blast us right into the main breakdown.. First consisting of silence most of the time, this gradually builds itself up using a few of the components from the build, but this time accompanied by an amazing set of violin strings playing a beautiful melody. But the fun is yet to come! The main melody itself is just out-of-this-world. When I first heard this I kind of couldn't believe my ears! A fantastic combination of emotionally uplifting, but still very energizing notes is being brought forward in an incredible way. Shivers all the way, especially when all the madness is being brought together creating a righteously amazing vibe throughout the rest of the track. Of course some people will disagree with me here, but I'm sure a lot of trance minded people out there would definitely go completely nuts when hearing this live. A superb trancer which I'm certainly going to remember for a long, long time. Top class stuff! Rating: 9/10
B-side: Recognition
After recovering from the fun that the A-side is, let's see what this one will bring us. Right from the beginning, you will notice that this one has a slighly harder feel to it. Techy FX, a constantly ongoing bassline and percussion reminiscent of 'Confirmation' lead us towards a bunch of strings being pulled to the front to amplify a more full feeling. While the first portion of the build inclined more towards a techy track, all this is being compensated by a rather 'happy' synth playing a simple yet effective melody. Using a rather short breakdown, again a somewhat happy main melody is being introduced. Every now and then a chord is being lifted up a few notes to create this kind of driving feel, inducing the track to become just a little 'cheesy' (I hate using the word, sorry). Though there is not much emotion in there, the climaxes do create a very cool mood during the second half of the track. With a nice amount of force jamming out of it, we have ourselves a quite OK trancer here. Rating: 7/10
Conclusion:
Let's skip the hassle, 'Confirmation' is just awesome! The combination of the amazing melody and the 'retro' uplifting feel just do it for me. 'Recognition' on side B is a more standard trancer, but still knows how to do its thing by bringing a nice portion of drive and strength into the track. All in all a very nice release on the ITWT label again, let's hope they will bring us more like this in the future!
